Statement from Managing Director β Express Bodyworks Group
14 January 2026
I would like to provide a clear and accurate update regarding the fire incident in Blakenhall, Wolverhampton, following some misleading reports that have circulated this morning.
The fire did not originate at our Wolverhampton South accident repair facility or any other vehicle repair facility. It began in the early hours of 14 January 2026 at a neighbouring business, a furniture store, and subsequently has affected a large number of surrounding businesses and premises. Due to the scale and severity of the incident, fire crews from all across the West Midlands were deployed to safeguard nearby buildings and contain the spread of the fire. Emergency services remain on site, and we are advised that the incident is likely to continue into the evening
I want to be absolutely clear and unequivocal on the following points:
Our Express Bodyworks Wolverhampton South facility has not been damaged by the fire outbreak, however as the spread continues there is always a possibility
The building is currently being protected by a substantial separating wall, and there has been no fire damage to our premises.
All Express Bodyworks property and, most importantly, all customer vehicles and belongings are completely safe and away from the scene.
As a precautionary measure, and thanks to the swift and professional actions of our team, all contents and customer vehicles were successfully removed from our premises in the early hours of this morning. This proactive response ensured that there was no risk to customer assets, which remain secure.
Access to our site has been temporarily restricted for the coming days due to emergency service cordons and safety controls, and we fully support these measures while the incident is brought under control.
I would like to thank West Midlands Fire Service and all supporting emergency services for their tireless efforts in extremely challenging circumstances. I also want to reassure our customers, partners, and the wider community that safety, transparency, and the protection of customer property are always our highest priorities.
We kindly ask that any reporting on this incident reflects the verified facts and avoids exaggerated or inaccurate descriptions that may cause unnecessary concern.
We will continue to provide updates as and when appropriate.
