Maritime Training & Competence Solutions (MTCS) is internationally acknowledged as the most experienced and professional underwater technology training centre in the world, and has a proven track record. We appreciate that choosing the right training centre for you is vital to your personal development and ultimately your future career. We provide industry leading training to major subsea contracting companies all over the world and welcome many service leavers and those currently serving onto our training courses. It is evident to us that many employers appreciate and actively source the skills and mind-set that forces personnel possess in the civilian work place. Those on our courses, who will come from an engineering background, are building upon existing skill sets which can be easily transferred and applied to the offshore industry. For this reason we see many of our course delegates finding successful offshore careers with companies who see and appreciate the benefits of employing ex-HM forces personnel. In addition to the Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) Induction course, MTCS has many safety, technical and supervisory courses to choose from for personnel once they have established a career in the industry. MTCS is also the recognised and accredited certifying body for Personnel Competence within the ROV Industry. Our dedicated team of instructors will help you in your quest for employment; offering one-to-one time to go over your CV with you and bring out the best you have to offer in it. Through working for global offshore corporations we have key leads and contacts within the industry and are able to advise on current employment opportunities. All of our successful candidates are registered into the MTCS Ltd competence management program, which is included in our course fee. This enables MTCS Ltd delegates to continue their personal and professional development when offshore, leading to further certification - a service which no other training centre can provide. For any further queries regarding courses, please telephone 015394 40200 or contact [email protected].

What is CPD, and why does it matter offshore?

Richard explains that CPD (Continuing Professional Development) is a formal record of the time you spend learning. As technology, procedures and safety legislation change, it shows you are keeping up.

That record can help you gain employment, earn promotions and keep the quality of your competence where it should be.

Clear records are what make an assessment a quality assessment.

The essentials are: a detailed assessment plan, a clear feedback report on the candidate’s performance, and a written note of their answers to any knowledge questions.

His renewal tip? Start keeping a log of everyone you assess now, so it is ready to submit when you renew.

Skills Assessor Renewals are changing in 2027

From 1 January 2027, the deadline to submit evidence and the Renewal Criteria for Skills Assessor Renewals will change.

What this means for you: you'll need to be enrolled on your renewal before your current certificate expires, and your verification will need to be completed before it expires too.

The good news? There's no price difference, and certificates will now run consecutively, so your competence stays recognised with no gap.

Now is a good time to check your certificate expiry date and plan ahead.

What does good evidence actually look like?

When you submit evidence for your MTCS certificate, our Verifiers check it against four simple rules.

1. Time:
2. Authenticity
3. Relevance
4. Sufficiency

More evidence is not the same as better evidence. Find out more at mtcsuk.com/support-centre/

Why we've changed the Skills Assessor renewal process.

Quality assessment offshore is essential, as an EAL-accredited organisation, we're held to national standards for how we manage our assessors, and we've strengthened our renewal process to meet them.

It all comes down to one goal: better assessment, and safer, more competent teams offshore.

Over half the workforce could be classed as "quiet quitters". Offshore teams are not immune to this, even in roles where the responsibility is high and the margin for error is small.

The Willing and Able model helps supervisors spot the warning signs. People move between four states depending on whether they can do the job and whether they want to. The aim is to keep them Able and Willing, and to catch the slip early when boredom or a lack of support starts to creep in.

The fix is practical, training that fits the role, regular check-ins, fair feedback and good supervision all keep a team motivated and competent. A motivated, competent team is a safer one.
