RIP Isky. The hot rod and drag racing world have lost a once in a generation legend but your legacy has and will continue to shape the sport.
It is with great sadness that we share the news of our dear friend Ed Iskenderian’s passing, who left us today at the age of 104. To put it at its mildest, even a vague overview of Isky’s achievements is simply jaw dropping. His place as one of the greatest American entrepreneurs to come from the racing and aftermarket speed equipment world is undeniable, as were his groundbreaking advertising campaigns that transformed the way go-fast parts were marketed. This combination of good business sense, his gift for branding, and a brilliant mind for engineering came together to build what will forever be one of the most recognized brands in the history of auto racing… all from a kid born into gripping poverty who famously set his goal as a child to someday make $100 a day! Over the years we have had the great privilege of being friends with Ed. He joined our Advisory Board at the very launch of the AHRF and has been invaluable to us from day one, sharing his knowledge and answering questions that only he could. After all, Ed had literally seen and lived the entire timeline of the hot rod movement- from its birth to present day. In all our years of spending time with Ed, it is safe to say that we never met anyone more ferociously curious. Every single time we crossed paths with Ed, he would have a new discovery that he couldn’t wait to tell us about. He would be as excited as a little kid and absolutely busting, as he was when we once met him for a Wednesday lunch and he’d just come from a scrapyard where he’d taken the mechanical valve timing assembly off of a modern Honda and spread it across the table while excitedly explaining to us how it worked. He’d gone to the scrapyard himself and removed all of this, and he was 98 at the time! This, to us, was his secret. Ed never stopped wondering, considering, learning or hoping. The secret to his long life. We thank Ed for this example and for everything he did for our beloved tradition. He was an inspiration, a wonderful person, a great friend that we will miss, and the last of his kind. RIP, Edward Iskenderian. July 10, 1921-February 3, 2026. We have now come to the falling of the last redwood.
