Peugeot sorted

This one had already been diagnosed at the main dealer as needing a high-pressure fuel pump, spark plugs and coil packs. Rather than paying main dealer prices, the customer came to me instead.

All the required parts were replaced, then the system was reset and checked using Diagbox — Peugeot’s OEM diagnostic software.

Same proper repair, without the main dealer labour bill.

A couple of brake jobs completed recently

First up was a BMW 2 Series for a set of rear discs and pads, finished off with a proper handbrake adjustment.

Then onto a Chrysler Grand Voyager for front discs and pads.

Both jobs completed using Pagid braking components supplied by Euro Car Parts — good quality parts I’m happy to fit and trust.

Citroen Berlingo DV6 Cambelt Replacement

This Berlingo had recently been purchased with 131,000 miles on the clock and no history to confirm the cambelt had ever been replaced.

Rather than take the risk, the customer opted to have a new cambelt fitted as a preventative measure — definitely the sensible choice when the history is unknown.

The DV6 is a lovely little engine to work on and this one is now ready for plenty more miles with one less thing for the owner to worry about.

Cooling system job completed

This Jaguar XF came in with a coolant leak. The system was pressure tested to pinpoint the fault, which led to replacing the header tank and secondary water pump.

Once fitted, the cooling system was properly bled and the car was road tested and brought fully up to temperature to make sure the coolant was circulating exactly as it should.

Leak found, repaired and back on the road.

Cambelt job completed

This time it was a Fiat Tipo 1.6 diesel in for a cambelt and water pump replacement. With timing belts, it’s always better to replace them at the correct interval rather than risk a costly engine failure.

New cambelt kit and water pump fitted, coolant topped up and the engine checked over afterwards.

A couple of pre-purchase inspections completed recently — one on a Mazda MX-5 and another on a SEAT Leon.

The MX-5 had headlight issues and I found that the wrong headlight had previously been fitted. The Leon looked tidy at first glance, but on inspection two of the tyres were worn right down to the cords.

Both customers were able to use the findings to negotiate the purchase price, meaning the inspection ultimately saved them money.

You wouldn’t buy a house without having a survey done, so why spend thousands on a car without having it properly checked first?

For £150, my pre-purchase inspection includes a full underside inspection with all four wheels off the ground, a diagnostic scan and a road test.

Inspections can be carried out at a garage or at the seller’s home, making it easy to get the car checked before you commit.

Another awkward one ticked off the list

Jeep Commander 3.0 V6 diesel in for a DPF replacement, running the Mercedes OM642 engine. The vehicle had gone into limp mode with multiple DPF pressure faults and soot accumulation codes.

This one definitely put up a fight — pretty much every bolt and stud either snapped, seized or rounded off. The trusty MAP gas got a serious workout, and I even had to make an emergency trip to Screwfix for a second bottle 😂

New DPF fitted, everything back together properly and another stubborn job completed.

Sometimes the actual repair is the easy bit… getting 20-year-old fixings apart is the real battle!
