IS THE COLD WEATHER KILLING YOUR BATTERY? It did on this Kia Sportage. Thankfully, we were able to supply and fit a brand new DriveTec battery the same day to get the customer going again.

As the customer found in this case, during good weather their old battery showed no signs of failing, but with one cold snap of weather, the battery gave up.

Prior to replacing the battery, I did a full check to confirm this was the issue and afterwards, I also did a charging test, which was bob on.

🚨 Crash Shuts Down Potovens Lane in Lofthouse Tonight

Emergency services rushed to a collision on Potovens Lane in Lofthouse, Wakefield, this evening.

Firefighters, police, and ambulances remain at the scene. A road closure is in force along the affected stretch to support operations.

Motorists should avoid the area and seek alternative routes.

WHO STOLE THE LIGHT? Went to see this Volkswagen Passat where the drivers door wouldn't open. Despite working with torch light (the benefits of being mobile 🤣) I managed to track the problem back to the door latch mechanism. The deadlock wasn't releasing.

BOOT LATCH DIDN'T WORK

Customers Vauxhall Zafira boot latch didnt work. After stripping some of the trim back, I found some signs on the connectors of water corrosion on the terminals.

I confirmed that the body control module had power, and I confirmed the wiring, switch and motor were still working, which they were. I then started to look at the body control module and connectors to find heavy corrosion inside. I also confirmed that whilst power was going in to the body control module, no power was coming out.

Given the value of the vehicle and the cost of repairs, the customer opted not to have the vehicle repaired.

BATTERY FITTED, 5 HOURS FROM CALL TO FITTING

Got the call at midday saying the battery has given up the ghost. 5 hours later, I was at the customers house and fitting a new DriveTec battery from GSF Car Parts.

But not before I checked the current battery was definitely at fault and then checked the batteries charging system.

All tickety boo afterwards.

LAST JOB OF THE WEEK - Replacing the coil pack and spark plugs on this Vauxhall Corsa.

Attended the customers car earlier in the week for a misfire. Tried to clean the contacts up to save the customer some money, but this proved in effective.

Fitted a brand new genuine Delphi coil pack as well as genuine NGK spark plugs.

KIA SPORTAGE - Customer found the engine management light on and a fault recorded against the air intake temperature sensor. The sensor was replaced by someone else, but that didn't resolve the issue.

The customer then found the wire to the connector had been severed and that's when the customer came to me.

There wasn't enough cable left in the connector and the connector could not be deconstructed to replace the wire, so I sourced and fitted a replacement connector.

The engine management light is now out and the car can now go for its MOT.

I'LL BE BACK (as soon as I find a replacement connector)

Customer had taken their car to another garage as the engine management light was on. Initially diagnosed as a faulty temperature sensor. Unfortunately, it turned out to be the wiring at fault, not the sensor. I checked the wires were getting voltage, and they were.

I'd like to say I completed this repair in a oner, but I didn't. My plan was to take the existing pins out of the connector, join it to a new wire and complete the circuit, but that didn't work out. So now I'm on the hunt for a new connector, to take the old one out and put the new one in. More images to follow.

Diagnostic inspection today - Customers Vauxhall engine management light was on, as was the ABS light.

Problem was quickly identified to be the coil pack and spark plug, both of which had corossion on them. A new coil pack isn't cheap, so I tried to clean both of them up as much as I could, in the hope of saving the customer some money. Time will tell. Fingers crossed.

Customer even left some lovely feedback which is always nice to read.
