A bit of an Alfasud update.
I don’t think I’d driven it since the Vengaworld event back in early October. Last winter was long and wet.
At some point late last year a random eBay find was an ultra rare Alquati twin carb conversion manifold for single carb engines. On these it’s not as easy as stealing the setup off a later Ti, there are various cooling system changes and different cylinder heads. Way more involved than I wanted to get.
The manifold came bare, so some cheapo Chinese Weber idf clones were purchased. I’ve heard modern genuine Webers don’t have great quality control, so paying 7x as much doesn’t guarantee they’ll work any better!
I then spent several dark evenings figuring out a linkage setup that would retain the original throttle cable and not need any other engine bay modifications.
I finally got it fired up one evening last week, but couldn’t run it for long as the cooling system was still drained. After eventually receiving the correct inlet manifold gaskets ( coolant flows through the manifold to each of the heads) I could replumb and refill the cooling system. Today I could let it run properly and get warm.
A quick check that all the lights still worked, and I was off on a couple of mile test drive.
The induction roar is crazy, sounds like a proper oldschool rally car 😂 I don’t think it’s actually any quicker, but it definitely sounds it!
A once over and check for leaks, then back out to top the tank with fresh fuel and it all seems to be behaving.
It’s good to have old Alfred back in action.

I hadn’t planned on going back to this look, but a pair of only just legal tyres, plus finding a screw in one of the good ones meant the centrelocks have been temporarily retired. As I’d put a new pair on these rear wheels back in the autumn I thought I’d have a swap.

This time in on 8in all round, the 9s looked good but 8s drive better and means I can swap them around.

They seem to suit the retro 90s theme of the car, and I think they’re scrubbed in now after a run down to weekender at goodwood!

The post I thought I’d never be making,

I’m considering parting with my M3. My projects are all taking years longer than expected and have no idea when I’ll get around to it, I’ve seen something else Ive wanted for year which is much closer to being roadworthy and selling the e30 is the only way it can work at the moment 🥲

This should be considered a ‘Barn Find’ it has been off the road for approx 15 years, it has rust in all the usual e30 places. Scuttle, under the fuse box, inner wings, possibly bulkhead. Plus the scabs and bubbles you would expect from being sat so long

But, it’s a complete, genuine e30 m3. 1989 German import. Zinnobar red, black leather, non sunroof. Premium audio speakers, rear blind, 6 button obc, originally had ac with climatronic heating. Ac compressor and engine bay pipework currently removed.

Was a 195bhp cat car, but has supersprint decat exhaust with x-pipe and made 204bhp when tested many moons ago. Wears 4 genuine m3 evo 16” wheels, the spare is an original 15” has an evo airbox, uncracked black dash myech 1 steering wheel. From memory it’s on Bilstein dampers and eibach springs. Eibach strut brace, powerflex poly front arm and rear subframe bushes.

Last run about a year ago, fuel pump was making some odd noises and by now will need the tank draining and fresh fuel which I’d like to do if I get a chance.

I’ll be honest, I don’t want to sell it, I DO know what I’ve got. No stupid £10k offers, and don’t expect to jump in and drive it home. Where would you value it? I’ve got a figure in my head where things get interesting.

Cheapest complete roadworthy car I can find at the moment is €63,000 in Ireland.

Another year, another Christmas, Big Dave proving useful as an occasional use vehicle for doing suv things. Hadn’t really driven it for more than a month ( the clock still hadn’t been adjusted ) and probably not washed for even longer.

No girls draped over it, no Halloween dress-up, maybe a compact e36 is scary enough for some?

Eat Pasta, drive Fasta.

It was just a silly phrase I saw somewhere which amused me. Napolina, a well known brand of Italian food ( I have no idea how authentic they actually are)

Why not play to the stereotypes a bit? Especially as my Alfa definitely isn’t very fast.

But wait, it’s deeper than that. Slide the photos along. Napolina ran a competition to win an alfasud, they car they used on their promotional packaging and posters was a bright red S2 super, identical to my own.

Napolina also sponsored probably the best know alfasud race car in the UK, run by John Dooley in the national saloon championship ( which later became the BTCC ) and as a further tie-in, the Cambridge Alfa dealer, which was probably the closest one to where I live, offered upgrades for road cars under the Dealer Team Napolina banner

So yes, it is just a bit of silly fun, but there was also a thought process behind it.

Note the correct early Napolina font which includes a dot over the i unlike the current version.

On Saturday I took a cruise down to my first event at uks HQ for Vengaworld x monster world drift day car meet. A cool event with some beautiful cars, great people and immaculate beats courtesy of

Pic 2 is pretty rubbish, but it’s the only one I took with my car in 😄 Apologies if I miss anyone’s tag, let me know and I’ll add it.
