Just a little post to raise awareness of the level of complexity that is now in cars

Did you know that most cars after 2019 have what we call a secure gateway which we as a garage now need to access .

To perform diagnostic or service procedures on these vehicles that have the secure gateways activated we now have to have what is called a pass through capable diagnostic tool.

Why I hear you ask do manufactures have this ? It is in basic terms a firewall like your computers have to stop someone hacking your vehicle systems due to these vehicles having WiFi built in.

With also more and more ADAS (advanced driver assist systems) including vehicle automation there was more risk if these vehicles were hacked.

So now to access your vehicle our diagnostic tool has to be connected to the Internet and have a prescription charge to allow unlocking of this gateway .

Before we can get our hands dirty changing your brake pads , servicing your vehicle and resetting that pesky service light.

Luckily the owner didn't start or drive the vehicle as soon as the low oil pressure warning came on and prevented terminal damage . Carbon build up in the sump causing partial blockage in the pickup pipe.
Removal of sump pan along with balance shaft / oil pump to allow replacement of pickup pipe , that funnily enough mazda keep in stock
