The Premature Wear Breakdown
Are your twin-fitment axles fighting each other? 🚛⚙️
Walk around your yard this weekend and take a close look at your drive axles.
One of the most common, cash-bleeding mistakes we see during routine fleet audits is mismatched twin fitments.
When a tyre on the inner position has a different tread depth, pattern, or even inflation level than the outer tyre, the math stops working:
The Drag Effect: The tyre with the larger circumference forces the smaller tyre to scrub and drag against the tarmac.
Rapid Degradation: This uneven load distribution cuts the tread life of both tyres by up to 15-20%.
Fuel Drag: Your engine works harder to overcome the micro-scrubbing, quietly driving up your literal cost-per-mile.
The Audit Tip: Never match a brand-new 15mm drive tyre next to a half-worn 7mm tyre on the same twin hub. Keep tread depths across the same axle within a 3mm tolerance window, and ensure patterns match exactly to avoid irregular casing stress.
Tyres shouldn't be treated as a disposable commodity. With tight margins, keeping rubber on the rim longer is pure profit.
