These operations are vital for public safety.

❗️Always check your coupling with a stress test/rewind of the jockey wheel.

✅️ Use a breakaway cable when towing a braked trailer weighing over 750 kg MAM.

👍🏻 Remember your towing mirrors (trailer wider than car = towing mirrors)

❌️ Avoid over loading your trailer.

🚐 ROAD SAFETY OPERATION – CARAVANS & VEHICLE SAFETY 🚔

Yesterday, officers carried out a successful road safety operation focused primarily on caravans, while also checking a variety of other road users.

The team was joined by colleagues from DataTag, TyreSafe, the Harm Prevention Team and a Stolen Vehicle Examiner.

During the operation:

🚗 30 vehicles stopped
⛔ 5 PG9 prohibitions issued for dangerous vehicle conditions
📚 10 drivers given educational and safety advice
🚨 1 uninsured vehicle seized
❌ 1 vehicle seized for having no MOT
⚖️ 1 driver reported for summons for not being in proper control of their vehicle
🪟 2 illegal window tint offences dealt with
🔢 1 misrepresented number plate rectified
⚖️ 4 overweight vehicles made safe
👮 3 arrests made for immigration offences

Some of the most common issues identified involved poorly attached or missing breakaway cables, a lack of towing mirrors and incorrect caravan tyre pressures.

Road safety applies to every vehicle and every road user. Thankfully, most of those stopped were found to be doing things correctly.

For those who aren't, there will be more operations like this. 🚨
