Some things 17 year olds need to know about insurance.....

1. Fully comprehensive (with maximum excess) is HUNDREDS OF POUNDS cheaper than 3rd party fire and theft.

2. Adding a parent as a named driver reduced one quote by £1000. £3041 down to £2148

3. Being a named driver on another car reduces your premium (although by 10s of pounds).

4. DON'T limit yourself to obvious cars (Clio, Corsa etc). There are some unusual cars that are just as cheap. E.g. ford Kuga, BMW Z3, VW Scirocco...more to follow.

Update. I got a Mazda 3 (2011) down to £1600 for a 17 year old (living in Shipston) with 52 year old mother (no points) as an additional driver. Fully comprehensive with 1 month's experience and 900 excess.

Porsche Boxster (2001, 2.7 £6000). £2,282 fully comprehensive. What discerning parent would refuse such a bargain ? You heard it here first !
