PASS PLUS....

This ๐Ÿ‘† is for after you've passed your driving test & feel you haven't already covered these things ๐Ÿ‘‡ in your lessons:

Town, all-weather, rural, night/dark, dual carriageways, motorways.

Is it worth it?
*You MAY get a discount on your insurance though not all insurers participate in this.
*There is no pass or fail, once completed, a report form will be filled in & you'll receive a certificate.

My learners (like some others) already cover all of the these skills BEFORE passing their test.

*Townโœ…๏ธ
*All-weatherโœ…๏ธ we have safe, controlled, fun snow lessons where learners can get to understand how the car reacts/handles differently.
*Ruralโœ…๏ธ open & narrow bendy lanes.
*Night/darkโœ…๏ธ only when learners can swap their light hrs with a learner who already has lessons when it dark.
*Dual carriagewaysโœ…๏ธ we have lots of them around here & some are 70mph.
*Motorwaysโœ…๏ธ I'm a big believer of learners having these lessons BEFORE passing their test. It gives more confidence & understanding, but I'll only suggest when the learner is already at a good, safe standard with everything else.

The rule for learners driving on motorways came in on June 4th 2018. They must be accompanied by an approved driving instructor & in a car fitted with dual controls ๐Ÿ‘Œ

Struggle with roundabouts ๐Ÿค”

If you have a good understanding of roundabouts but still struggle with them, it could all be down to your approach speed.

โŒ๏ธ Too fast = No time to look sooner & plan = likelihood of stopping when clear & safe to carry on & enter the roundabout โŒ๏ธ

โœ…๏ธ Slower = Able to look sooner & plan = knowing if it's clear & safe to carry on & enter the roundabout by selecting correct gear โœ…๏ธ

CAN YOU SKIP GEARS IN YOUR DRIVING TEST ๐Ÿค”

โœ…๏ธ Yes

Skipping gears in a manual is safe & efficient so long as you match your speed to the desired gear.

Upshifting example = 3rd to 5th.
Downshifting example = 5th to 3rd.

Upshifting you'll need to accelerate.
Downshifting you'll need to brake.

So, to all of my more mature learners & people everywhere, whether it be from the beginning or full licence holder wanting a refresher (for many reasons)......

You CAN do this, your age does NOT make it impossible, it IS worth it & YOU are too ๐Ÿ™‚

ILLEGAL DRIVING INSTRUCTORS...THEY ARE NOT INSURED...WHICH MEANS YOU ARE NOT INSURED.

There are so many around, don't be tempted by them.

Some have a roof box on with a name & number, some have an L box on, some have L plates on.

ALL legal Driving Instructors MUST display a green badge (qualified) or a pink badge (trainee) in their windscreen.

If they don't, then you're giving away your money to someone who doesn't care about you or your safety.

Do the right thing people ๐Ÿ‘‡

TEST ROUTES...
Some Instructors teach test routes.
Some Instructors don't teach test routes.

I don't teach test routes as I wholeheartedly believe that if you can drive safely you can drive safely anywhere.

*ONLY DOING TEST ROUTES = You pass your test & feel great. You're driving to work for the 1st time, it's unfamiliar territory, there are diversions in place due to roadworks. You've only done roads you know, you feel out of your depth & your confidence is dipping ๐Ÿ˜”

Now imagine the same scenario but the only difference is that you learnt to drive around many unfamiliar areas. Yes you'll feel a little nervous BUT you'll feel more confident in dealing with the situations ๐Ÿ™‚

Learn to WANT to be better
rather than
Learn to pass.

COMMENTARY DRIVING....What is it & why it helps ๐Ÿค”

What is it?
Commentary driving is when you verbally describe what you see & say how you intend to deal with it.
*Describe what is currently happening - eg: traffic lights turning red.
*Plan by saying out loud next steps - eg: check mirrors, reduce speed, select gear.

This is a great way to help identify potential dangers early & it gives you time to process what you need to do depending on your surroundings.

So whether you're a beginner just starting out or a full licence holder with years of driving experience behind you.....๐Ÿ‘‡

I feel the need to put this one on again as I see so many drivers creep over the white line & through the red light out of sheer panic.....๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿ‘‡
