🛑DASHBOARD WARNING LIGHTS🛑

Wondering what those symbols on the dashboard mean? The warning lights on your car's dashboard light up when something's wrong. As a rule of thumb:

Red warning lights mean you need to take immediate action.
Amber warning lights (or other colours) often mean something needs checking by a garage
Green lights mean everything is OK
It’s normal to see some of these lights briefly while you start your engine. But if they stay lit up while you’re driving, then you'll need to look into it.

Dipstick engine oil colour chart.

Engine oil color can reveal important details about the condition of the oil and the engine itself. Here's a general guide to engine oil color and what it might mean:

1. Amber / Light Brown
Normal condition: Fresh or new oil usually appears amber or light brown. If it's been recently changed, this color is expected and suggests that the oil is clean and functioning as intended.

2. Dark Brown / Black
Old or used oil: Over time, oil picks up contaminants and debris from the engine, causing it to darken. Dark brown or black oil isn't always bad, but it usually indicates the oil is due for a change soon.
Sign of oxidation or heat exposure: Oil that's been in use for a long time or exposed to high engine temperatures will oxidize, causing it to turn darker.

3. Milky / Creamy
Possible coolant leak: If the oil has a milky, frothy appearance, it could mean coolant is leaking into the oil system, which is often a sign of a blown head gasket or other serious engine issue. This requires immediate attention.

4. Foamy or Bubbly
Overfilled or contaminated oil: Bubbles or foam on the dipstick can occur if the engine oil level is too high or if air is being introduced into the oil system, which might point to an overfilled oil tank or a possible issue with the oil pump.

5. Gray / Metallic
Sign of metal contamination: Grayish oil could suggest that metal particles are present in the oil, which could indicate engine wear or damage. If you notice a metallic sheen or particles, it's a sign that the engine is wearing down internally.

6. Greenish / Red Tint
Oil additives or contamination: Some oils are tinted red or green by the manufacturer, but if the oil wasn't originally this color, it could be a sign of contamination from other fluids like transmission or power steering fluid.

If you notice any unusual colors, especially milky or metallic oil, it’s a good idea to let us have a look at your engine to avoid more serious damage. Regular oil changes and monitoring the color can help ensure the health of your vehicle's engine.
