To all of our customers,
As many of you will recall, just over a year ago we announced that we were considering our options for the Pick Arthey garage site as proprietors of the business, having reached and passed retirement age.
There is no secret that one of the options we have been pursuing has been a redevelopment of the site for housing, and although a planning decision is still yet to be given, we have made the difficult decision to cease trading and close the business with effect from 31st October 2022.
Whilst we’ve been able to run effectively since making the announcement last year, the environment that we are operating in has become increasingly challenging on several fronts, with fuel supply, finding replacement car stock, availability of parts and labour all proving to be more difficult to manage.
Given our future retirement plans, we would rather be proactive in our timing in closing the business than waiting until a planning decision is reached and be unable to deliver the service that we have prided ourselves on giving over the past 36 years of trading.
We appreciate that this may be unwelcome news for some, especially given the limited alternative fuel filling options locally, but we hope that by giving 3 months’ notice it will enable customers the chance to plan alternative arrangements. All of our services will remain open until that time.
Whilst this announcement is with some sadness, we have been blessed to have worked with a team of very committed and capable staff throughout our time, some of whom have been with us for over 30 years, and will be forever thankful to have had such a loyal customer-base in and around Oundle.
