When school terms start to wind up from late June onwards, UK road patterns shift in ways that catch people out in both directions.

The morning school run disappears, which makes some routes noticeably clearer between 8am and 9am. But leisure traffic increases sharply from Friday afternoons, holiday traffic begins building on routes south and west, and caravans and motorhomes that have been sitting since May are back on the road in volume.

If you are a daily commuter, your usual journey may actually feel easier for a few weeks. If you are planning a leisure drive or a summer trip in the next month, the roads are entering their busiest period of the year. The same preparation applies either way.

It's one of those things that's easy to lose track of - and one of the worst times to discover your cover has lapsed is when you're standing at the side of the road.

AutoAid members can check their membership expiry date any time by downloading their documents through the customer portal. No need to call, no need to wait.

While you're there, it's worth double-checking your renewal preferences too - so there are no surprises when the date comes around.

Air Conditioning Not Working? Here’s Why

There is nothing worse than turning on your air conditioning on a warm day and realising it is not doing much at all. It is one of those things you do not think about until it stops working.

The good news is that most air conditioning problems are quite common, and in many cases, they are easy to sort or prevent.

Every long summer journey has a moment, usually about twenty minutes from the destination, where somebody in the car says the thing.

Are we nearly there. I need a wee. What time do you think we'll arrive. Can we stop again. I think we should have taken the other road.

Tell us the one your car always produces.

Father's Day Sunday can mean more cars, more distance, so it's worth doing a quick check first. Father's Day is one of the higher-volume Sundays of the year for leisure driving.

If you are driving any distance on Sunday, a two-minute check on Friday or Saturday is worth doing. Tyre pressure, fuel level, screenwash, and a quick look at the oil are the useful basics. None of them take long and all of them are more useful done before the journey than during it.

😴Tiredness hides itself. That's the problem.

Myth: You know your own limits. If you're getting tired on a long journey, you'll feel it and pull over.

Fact: Fatigue impairs the ability to recognise fatigue. Studies consistently show that drivers underestimate how tired they are, particularly on long motorway runs where monotony accelerates drowsiness without obvious warning signs. Tired driving contributes to around 20% of serious motorway accidents in the UK according to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents. The rule is simple: plan a break every two hours regardless of how you feel. Feeling fine is not the same as being fine.

🔴 Five passengers, a full boot, and a breakdown on the way home. A breakdown with a full car is a different problem from a breakdown on your own.

You cannot easily leave the vehicle. You have people to account for - potentially including children, elderly relatives, or someone who cannot stand on a roadside for an extended period. The emotional and logistical weight of the situation is significantly higher than if you were alone.

AutoAid will recover you, your vehicle, and up to five passengers to any single UK destination of your choice if you break down more than a mile from home. Not just to the nearest garage. To wherever you need to go to get everyone home and sorted.

It is the kind of thing that sounds straightforward in the policy documents and feels very significant when you actually need it.
