A brake pad’s friction material is bonded to a steel backing plate…
So when that bond fails, your braking performance can fail with it

This is something we picked up during a routine service — the lining was starting to separate from the metal plate. Not something you’d spot without stripping and inspecting properly.

At our garage, we don’t just “check” brakes:
We strip them down
We clean them
We inspect everything thoroughly

Ford Transit EcoBlue Timing Belt Failure – Severe Internal Engine Damage

This Ford Transit EcoBlue came into the workshop with a non-start and abnormal engine noise… and it didn’t take long to find out why.

The timing belt had failed, throwing the engine completely out of sync and causing extensive internal damage.

What we found on strip-down:

Failed wet timing belt

Oil system contaminated with belt debris

Broken rocker arms

Camshaft lobes spun/damaged

Loss of valve timing leading to internal contact

Once these engines lose timing, the damage is immediate and severe. In this case, the top end took a heavy hit, with valvetrain components failing under stress.

🛠️ Work carried out:

Engine strip down and inspection

Removal of debris and contaminated oil

Replacement timing belt kit

Repairs to valvetrain components

Engine rebuilt to manufacturer spec using genuine parts

Important reminder:EcoBlue engines run a belt-in-oil system, and if servicing is missed or incorrect oil is used, the belt can degrade prematurely. When it goes, it’s rarely just a simple fix.

Prevention is key:Regular servicing and early belt replacement can save thousands in repair costs.

If you’re running a Transit or managing a fleet, don’t leave it to chance—get it checked before it becomes a rebuild.

🚨 Don’t ignore a rattling timing chain 🚨

If you hear a rattling or ticking noise from your engine—especially on cold starts—it could be a worn timing chain.
