✅ 6mm+ Remaining – Generally considered good condition.

🟡 4mm–5mm Remaining – Wear is evident, but no immediate action is usually required.

⚠️ 3mm Remaining – This is where many garages will issue an advisory. The brakes are still legal, but replacement should be planned in the near future.

🔴 Below 1.5mm Remaining – Brake pads are likely to be considered excessively worn and may result in an MOT failure.

It’s important to remember that brake pad wear can vary depending on your driving style and mileage. A vehicle covering 20,000 miles per year may wear through 3mm of brake material much quicker than a vehicle covering 5,000 miles per year.
