Seriously close call for this Mitsubishi owner.

Customers complaint was a funny noise from the transmission area when going above 20MPH.

Safe to say we found the cause quite, a bearing in the gearbox had completely disintegrated, swipe to see the devastation…

Any more driving and this likely would’ve caused irreparable damage to the casing. Fortunately they called us just in time, the gearbox is now fully rebuilt and the customer back on the road.

Audi Q5 we had in recently with usual dual clutch & Mechatronic issues.

The 7 speed 0B5/DL501 gearboxes equipped to a range of Audi’s from 2010-2017 suffer with a few weak points.

This particular car was on the high side mileage wise and unfortunately the clutch pack had reached the end of its life, over time the frictions wear down and can lead to slipping and overheating.

When this occurs you risk clutch material circulating through the gearbox oil, which subsequently blocks up the valve body / Mechatronic.

As you can see in the photos when stripping the Mechatronic unit, the filter/gauze on the part has buildup of contamination, while it may seem insignificant this can lead to pressure drop and poor gear engagement.

Manual Hyundai Tucson we had in this week with a noisy gearbox 🔧.

Customer complained of whining through the gears… safe to say the we caught this one before it was too late 👀

Typical gearbox bearing failure we see on these ZG70/ZG72 gearboxes. Unfortunately the gearboxes aren’t up for the job from factory, often suffering from bearing failure or synchromesh issues. We’re doing 2 or 3 of these a week at the moment.

Ford EcoSport in for dual clutch replacement this afternoon.

Customer reported “Transmission malfunction, service now” along with harsh shifting and loss of drive. Fault traced back to worn clutches and transmission faults within the Powershift system.

Replacement clutches fitted, adaptations carried out, and back operating as it should.

Renault EDC gearbox in this afternoon, this one out of a camper converted Trafic

This one is a from trade customer who’d had the vehicle back and forth with the Renault dealer, after spending thousands on diagnosis and oil changes that got them no where eventually they were told a new gearbox was required and quoted astronomical numbers.

We however opted to rebuild the gearbox and replace the clutch pack instead of a complete replacement.

Upon stripping the gearbox we found metal swarf throughout, especially on the pick up magnets. The clutch & frictions were worn and had signs of slipping, unfortunately this had all been caused by a failed piston seal allowing pressure to leak when applying the clutches.

The pressure leak led to slipping clutches and subsequent drive ability problems, eventually leading to gearbox failure.

Replacement gearbox needed in this Hyundai tuscon in the workshop this afternoon…

Common issue we see on the petrol manual Hyundai Tuscon (and Kia Sportage). Unfortunately the factory bearings are not up for job, they commonly fail in an extreme fashion like this causing damage not just to the internals but also the gearbox casing.

Like this example, the damage to the casing renders the gearbox unrepairable, now the customer has to decide on whether they’d like a reconditioned or new unit.

If you drive either a Kia Sportage or a Hyundai Tuscon with a manual gearbox, listen out for any whining or humming noises coming from the gearbox and get the vehicle in for repairs before it’s too late.

A3 in with another smashed DSG gearbox… 🫣

Something we see all too often P0C29 - Auxiliary Transmission fluid pump driver circuit performance. Indicating a fault with the auxiliary pump inside the gearbox, a common fault where the retaining bolts work their way loose and can cause havoc inside the gearbox 😩.

In this case, the pump didn’t just fail — it’s taken part of the casing with it on the way out.

Replacement casing sourced and the gearbox built back up and this customer is back on the road ✅. At a fraction of the cost from the main dealer too.

If you experience a “gearbox malfunction” on the dashboard with no other symptoms or have a fault code of P0C290, we’d recommend to stop driving the car whatsoever and give us a call - we can collect from home and ensure your gearbox doesn’t end up looking like this.

Another one collected straight from the dealer. A common occurrence for us.

The owner of this Golf came to us after VW had quoted over £8,000 to replace the gearbox! It had suffered a minor internal failure leading to it being jammed in gear.

We were able to organise collection straight from the dealer, accurately diagnose the issue and explain to the customer that a repair was needed instead of a complete replacement.

We managed to get the customer back on the road for less than half the cost the dealer were proposing!

Another DSG fresh out the workshop this afternoon.

This Touran came up to us with clutch slip type symptoms and a very jerky driving experience.

A quick scan of the fault codes and we found an error of P177C indicating clutch 1 had reached its tolerance limit.

Upon replacing the dual clutch pack and carrying out basic settings the car was back to driving exactly as it should.

A clear example of an extreme gearbox failure on this Hyundai Tuscon we had in recently. Scroll to see the damage 🫣.

The customer booked in with us reporting a rumbling noise from the gearbox and difficulty changing gear.

The gearbox oil was black, burnt and heavily contaminated.

Upon stripping the gearbox we drained a little less than 500ml of oil - these gearboxes are meant to hold ~2 litres of oil.

Being run so low on oil has caused catastrophic damage to the gearbox, bearings have melted & collapsed, multiple teeth sheared and chipped.

The damage was so extensive the original gearbox was no longer repairable, due to supply chain issues the most cost effective solution was a brand new unit - a very rare occasion for us.
