🏍️ Thinking about getting into motorcycling but not sure where to begin?

The good news is — there's a starting point for every level of confidence.

**Completely new to motorcycles?** Our Introduction to Motorcycling (ITM) session is a relaxed, no-pressure way to get familiar with a bike and pick up some basic skills before you commit to formal training.

**Ready to ride as a learner on the road?** Book your Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) — the essential first step that gives you the fundamental skills and road-safety knowledge you need to ride independently as a learner.

Not sure which one suits you? Just speak to our team and we'll point you in the right direction based on your experience and confidence level. No judgement, no pressure — just honest advice.

Your motorcycling journey has to start somewhere. Start it with Universal Motorcycle Training®. 🏍️

🏍️ I’m a total beginner. Where should I start?

Never ridden a motorcycle or scooter before? You have a few options, and you don’t have to jump straight into a full CBT day.
If you’re a complete beginner, we recommend starting with our Introduction to Motorcycling (ITM), also known as our Beginner’s Course.

The ITM gives you a relaxed introduction to the basics before attempting CBT. You can work on:

✔️ Getting familiar with the motorcycle and its controls
✔️ Balance and moving the bike safely
✔️ Starting and stopping
✔️ Slow-speed control
✔️ Basic turning and manoeuvring
✔️ Clutch control and gears on a manual bike
✔️ Observations and shoulder checks
✔️ Building confidence before your CBT

Want even more individual attention? We also offer private one-to-one motorcycle lessons, where the training can be focused entirely on you, your experience and the areas you need to develop.
Once you’ve built those foundations, you can move on to your Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) with a much better idea of what to expect.

And if you prefer individual attention throughout your CBT itself, we also offer our CBT Executive 1-to-1, with one instructor dedicated to one trainee.

There’s no need to rush the learning process. The aim is to build your skills properly and get you riding safely and confidently.

'Is a motorbike cheaper than the Tube?' is a question with no honest one-word answer, so we did the sums instead.

A week of Tube travel is capped between £44.70 and £81.60 depending on your zones. Petrol was 161.63p a litre in the week commencing 24 August. Vehicle tax on a motorcycle runs from £27 to £125 a year, against £200 for a standard car registered on or after 1 April 2017.

We have been straight about what we cannot tell you too, including insurance and parking, and we promise nobody a saving.

From a first CBT to a full Category A licence — every step of the journey takes real commitment, focus and a lot of hard work.

It's always a proud moment for our instructors when they see trainees grow in confidence, sharpen their skills and ride away as safer, more capable motorcyclists. Whether you've just passed your CBT, hit the A1 or A2 milestone, or completed your Direct Access Scheme, you've earned it.

Well done to everyone who has recently achieved a licence with us. Enjoy the open road and ride safe!

Good riders don’t just use the brakes to stop - they use them to control speed.

Reduce your speed before bends, roundabouts and junctions. Brake smoothly while the motorcycle is upright, release the brakes progressively and then accelerate gently as you exit the hazard. Planning ahead makes every ride safer, smoother and more controlled, reflecting the riding principles taught in DVSA guidance and advanced riding.

Safe braking means using both brakes together.

The front brake provides most of your stopping power, while the rear brake helps keep the motorcycle balanced and stable. Learning to apply both smoothly and progressively gives you shorter stopping distances and greater control in all road conditions.

Practise good braking habits before you need them in an emergency.
