🚗 A Bit of a Different Job Today at Livingston Mobile Mechanics 🛞

The vehicle owner thought they were topping up the screen wash… only to discover it had accidentally been poured into the engine instead 🫣

We drained the contaminated oil and carried out multiple oil and filter changes, along with engine flushes, to remove all traces of contamination from the engine 🛢️

This situation could have been fatal to the engine, and because this vehicle is fitted with a wet belt, we strongly recommend having it replaced as soon as possible to prevent further damage

🚗 Another big save for a customer! 🚗

Recently we had a good friend’s car come in after the timing belt snapped while driving on the motorway. At first, it looked like the worst-case scenario and we feared the engine might need replacing due to catastrophic damage.

After carrying out a series of checks, we decided to take a chance and fit a new camshaft kit along with a full timing belt kit instead. 🧰🔧

The result?
👉 The engine started first turn of the key! 🎉

This repair saved our customer thousands of pounds 💷, and it’s always a great feeling when experience and careful diagnostics pay off.

While the vehicle was with us, we also:

We were contacted by a new customer whose car had gone into limp mode, with the engine management light on and a noticeable misfire💥

After carrying out a full diagnostic check, we found the culprit — faulty coil packs and a set of spark plugs that had definitely seen better days, given the condition of the spark plugs the vehicle has had a lack of regular maintenance/ servicing 🧰 which could have prevented this problem.

✅ Replaced the coil packs and spark plugs
✅ Faults cleared
✅ Car running smoothly again

🚐 Preventative Maintenance on Our Own Van This Week!

This week we carried out some much-needed preventative maintenance on our Transit — the dreaded wet belt job 🫣

We replaced the wet belt and water pump as well as new sump, timing cover, oil pump belt, tensioner with bolt, crank shaft pulley bolt, auxiliary belts and full service kit using genuine original parts. As many of you already know (or have unfortunately experienced), a wet belt failure can lead to repair bills running into thousands of pounds 💷

We were very lucky with ours — as you’ll see from the photos, this was at 40,000 miles 60,000 miles before Fords recommended mileage of 100,000— but it was definitely time to get it sorted before it became a much bigger problem.
