🔧 MOTORHOME WHEEL ARCH RESEALING COMPLETED 🔧

This motorhome had some ageing sealant around the wheel arch moulding...

Over time the sealant can shrink, crack or even lose adhesion.
This could also allow water behind panels.

Today we removed the deteriorated sealant, prepared and cleaned the surface, applied fresh flexible sealant for a neat factory-style finish.

These small maintenance jobs can help prevent much larger expensive repairs further down the line.

🔧MANUAL WASTE & FRESH WATER VALVE UPGRADE 🔧

This motorhome originally used electrically operated dump valves for emptying the fresh and waste water systems.

Unfortunately, these can become unreliable over time and leave owners struggling to empty their water tanks...

Today we removed the electronic valves, fitted new manual ball valves, and modified the pipework for a much simpler and more reliable setup. 🙂👍

🔥GAS LOCKER INSTALLATION COMPLETE🔥

Here we have a recent gas locker installation completed on a self-build camper conversion.

The previous setup has been upgraded to include a dedicated gas locker, drop-out ventilation, isolation valves and professionally installed pipework, providing a safer and more compliant LPG installation.

The work we completed included:

• Dedicated gas locker
• 30mbar regulator fitted
• Copper gas pipework installed throughout
• Isolation valves/manifold fitted
• Drop-out ventilation
• Full gas soundness and tightness test
• Gas certification issued upon completion

⚠️ WHY TWIN & EARTH CABLE SHOULDN'T BE USED IN CAMPERVANS OR MOTORHOMES ⚠️

This week I came across a van conversion that had been wired in standard household twin & earth cable.

While the twin & earth cable is perfectly acceptable for domestic installations, it isn't designed for use in vehicles...

🚐 So why is this such a problem?

Campervans, motorhomes and caravans are constantly on the move and are subjected to vibration. Household twin & earth cable uses solid copper conductors and with repeated vibration can cause conductors to fatigue and eventually snap!
This is often hidden inside insulation or terminals and can lead to overheating, intermittent faults, loss of power and potentially risk of fire 🔥

Vehicle installations should always use flexible stranded cable designed to withstand movement and vibration.

⚠️UNUSUAL NOISE WHEN BRAKING⚠️

A customer recently reported a 'thudding' noise on the caravan whilst under braking...

When we investigated and had a closer look, it revealed that it was a detached brake shoe lining causing the issue.

New brake shoes were fitted both sides, the brakes adjusted and tested, and the caravan is now back operating correctly 🙂👍

HAPPY 21st! 🥳 NOT QUITE... ⚠️

This was today’s caravan tyre manufactured in 2005 — making it 21 years old!

At first glance the tread depth didn’t look too bad, but the sidewalls were heavily cracked and perished throughout.

This is why tyre age is just as important as tread depth on caravans and motorhomes. Many older tyres can still “look alright” until you inspect them properly...

A running gear inspection can often reveal serious safety issues before they become dangerous on the road.

⚡️230V HOOK-UP REPAIR ⚡

We attended this motorhome after being driven away with the mains hook-up lead still connected, causing damage to the inlet and internal socket.

Fortunately the damage was contained to the inlet assembly, but it highlights how easily exposed conductors, poor connections and unsafe operation can occur if issues like this are ignored.

The damaged components were replaced, wiring checked and correctly terminated, and the system tested before being returned to service. 🙂👍

A simple reminder to always double-check your hook-up lead is disconnected before moving off. 😅🔌
