Leaf spring and u bolts.

Customer had gone over a pot hole and snapped the rear leaf spring.

Replaced all that but then had a nightmare. Accidently cut into the hand brake cable.

Being a Sunday. Couldn't get the part. Doesn't help that its bank holiday tomorrow. So will be back to replace that on Tuesday.

If we do anything thats our fault. We will always hold our hands up and rectify it.

WET BELT PACKAGE AND CLUTCH.

customer had issues with her clutch and wanted the timing belt replaced aswell.same time.

The release bearings had broken up inside the clutch causing the issue.

Also we did notice a clump of belt fibre falling off the strainer into the sump so that was lucky to change the belt then. The belt itself was cracked and worn.

Did all that but still an issue with changing gears after.

Found that the clutch slave cylinder was faulty. So we will be replacing that on monday.

We understand that customers are looking for best value especially in this current financial climate.

So they may think getting second hand parts and getting us to put it in will be the cheapest way.

We sometimes allow it as we know a customer is desperate to be back on the road. However as they are just paying for labour and there is no diagnostic or warranty. We CANNOT and WILL NOT give our assurances that the vehicle will be repaired. There will be no after care from us.

We have had an issue recently with a second hand turbo.
Fitted it in. Already looked like it was not the best. However that job isnt just replacing turbo.
You need to swap gaskets. Oil feed pipe. Oil filter. Oil. Find the cause of the turbo failure.

We advised all this to the customer. But still thats all he wanted.

Now the exhaust is blowing. Because the gaskets should have been replaced as advised.

Engine still running rough. Well we dont know if the turbo is fine or if there were other issues aswell.

Unfortunately we will be blamed for not repairing the vehicle 'properly'

We are expected to rectify this. But we have decided thats it. We did the job asked for.
Unfortunately it didnt work.

However if we had been asked to diagnose and then we repaired the vehicle. It may have cost more but the vehicle would be running now.

Unfortunately this customer is no better off than he was before.
Actually worse off. Paid for labour. Bought a second hand turbo. And still not resolved.

So PLEASE. before you think you are saving money. Better to pay once and get it done properly.

We are not here to rip you off. But if say a vehicle needs certain things. Then it means thats.our aim is to save you money
So there is never going to be any upsells.

So we have decided. NO MORE SECOND HAND PARTS.

Customer had issues with a VERY loud exhaust. And the handbrake pointing up to the sky.

Checked the exhaust.
Fully corroded away at the joint so needed both parts.

Front pads on drivers side worn down.

The rear shoes and drums... totally scratched and scored.

One of the least favourite jobs is doing the shoes. Just not a fan of the fiddly springs in the fitting kit.

Had some issues getting the correct parts but everyone at KIDDERMINSTER MOTOR FACTORS as always go above and beyond sourcing the correct ones. So thanks to them. Especially as we can pass the trade discounts on to the customers.

Car all repaired. Exhaust sorted. Brakes sorted. Few minor issues still... but thats for another time.

Customer complaint very noisy brakes.

No wonder... pads all the way down to metal.

Also done an emergency job this morning.

Had a missed call around 7.30am.
Called back at 8. Customer had snapped her auxiliary belt and battery was dead. Had stopped at an inconvenient place by a junction.

Got there for just after 9am. And had it all replaced before 9.30.

If you have an emergency we will always try to fit you in.

Bmw customer messaged about a blocked dpf.
It was heavily blocked when we got there.
It had over 400mbar pressure on 3k revs when it should be around 80 mbar.
On idle it was at 95 mbar when it should be at around 9 mbar.

We ran two cleaning phases through the car. But only got it down to 17 mbar on idle.
Needed to do a regen but unfortunately car was not letting it do it due to a mass air flow meter fault. That needs to be replaced first.

Once thats done then the car will do a regen and will get the pressure down to the correct level.

Very rarely its to do with the driving style or short trips that cause dpf to block.
In this case it was most likely the mass air flow meter being faulty and the car stopped doing regens and got blocked up.

Our second car was a ds3.
This was due to short driving trips.

This was at 261 mbar at 3k revs.
Forgot to record what it was on idle but obviously still high.

After the clean we got it down to 7mbar (perfect) on idle and 68mbar on 3k revs. Again perfect. And the car only has 0.5g of soot in the dpf.

2014 Ford Transit Turbo

Customer enquired about getting his turbo replaced.said he had the part so it was a np warranty no diagnostic job.
However we did recommend that the oil feed pipe get changed and also oil and filter.

Well.. when we got there.. the second hand turbo he had bought had play in it and was damaged. So had to wait until the scrap yard was able to source him a working one.

Once that was done we got to taking the old one off and put the 'new' one on.

While we dont mind doing just labour jobs where customers supply their own parts, there will still be some issues.

This customer had a breather pipe that was damaged so it was still running a bit rough after.

There was an oil leak so he didnt want the oil changed even though it could have been lack of oil or poor oil that damaged the turbo.

So this job we did to the customers advice.

Hopefully it will be fine.

Thats why diagnostics are important.

We would have done a smoke test first.
Found the damaged breather pipe.

Noticed the oil leak. Made sure that was done aswell.

And also diagnosed the faulty turbo.

They are all linked.

It may seem like a lot of money to spend but doing half a job could mean coming back and doing the same job again in the near future so ends up being more expensive.

customer came with a blocked dpf wanting it cleaned.
After checking the pressures and soot level. We could see it was blocked.
It had gone past the amount of soot for it to be able to do a regen by itself.

We put the cleaning fluid directly into the dpf with a pressure gun and ran the engine and keeping it around 3k revs to clear out the soot.

Once we saw the pressure going down we then did a dynamic regen using our diag tool while we drove the car for the soot level to go down to the required 6g.

Once that was all done. Had to tell the ecu it had a new dpf filter otherwise it would still throw up faults thinking its blocked when it has been cleared.

Happy customer now.

Customer had a coolant leak.
We went and diagnosed it to be coming from the oil cooler hose.
Rather than getting the whole pipe we just needed the silicon tube at the end.

The customer ordered the parts and we went and did the repair.

However once we had done that repair. We noticed another water leak!! It was coming from a metal pipe. Luckily there was a spare silicon sleeve.
We cut the pipe and made a bridge to repair the leak.

Now there is no leak.

Apologies for the pictures. Not very informative as it was quite cramped for space. But it is the silicon sleeves attached to the coolant pipes that was the job done.
