I recently had the opportunity to work on a Land Rover Discovery Sport, where I replaced two tyres and performed a thorough check to ensure the vehicleโs safety.
The first step was scanning all the tyre pressure sensors to make sure they were functioning correctly. This is crucial because if your tyre loses air, the system will alert you through the dashboard, helping you stay safe on the road. ๐จ
Itโs a good practice to check your tyre pressure at least once a month, especially when the tyres are cold, and definitely before any long trips. Under-inflated tyres can increase your stopping distance and reduce fuel efficiency. You can usually find the recommended tyre pressure in the ownerโs manual, on a sticker in the driverโs side door frame, inside the fuel filler cap, or sometimes in the glove box.
During the inspection, I found that two of the sensors had very low battery levels and would likely need to be replaced before the tyres needed changing again. Luckily, I always keep I-Sensors by Autogem in stock. These sensors are known for their durability, accurate readings, and long-lasting batteries. I reprogrammed and replaced both sensors within 30 minutes before fitting the new tyres.
The front tyres had a tread depth of 5mm. Although this is above the legal minimum tread depth of 1.6mm in the UK, the tyres were perishing. Perishing occurs when the rubber deteriorates over time due to age, exposure to the elements, or lack of regular use. This can lead to cracks in the rubber, compromising the tyre's integrity and increasing the risk of blowouts.
Better safe than sorry! ๐ก๏ธ
In just 1 hour and 30 minutes, I replaced and reprogrammed the TPMS sensors, changed, balanced, refitted, and torqued the two tyres to the correct settings. This is what we mean by fast, reliable service you can trust! ๐
