Is there anything better than escaping the February chill for a bit of cottage comfort?

We’ve been keeping the candles lit and the ovens warm here at Toby Cottage, and we’d love for you to join us. If you’re looking for a little winter pick-me-up that doesn’t break the bank, we’ve got some lovely treats on our set menus right now.

Our Winter Seasonal Menu is just £28.50 for three courses. Our chef Masimo has been busy in the kitchen with some lovely Beef Bourguignon that's perfect for a cozy lunch or dinner under our 18th-century beams.

And of course, Sundays just aren’t the same without a roast! Our Sunday set menu is £30.50 for three courses, and yes, the Yorkshire puddings are still standing tall. Just the way they should be!

Whether you're tucked away in a corner for a romantic date or catching up with the family, we’ll make sure you’re well looked after.

There’s something about a crisp winter evening that makes the warmth of our little cottage feel even more like a big, oak-beamed hug.

While it might be chilly outside in Ripley, inside we’ve been busy perfecting the stars of our Winter Menu. Today, we wanted to share the story behind a real favourite: our Fresh Fillet of Hake.

We’re quite picky when it comes to fish (if you’ve met Tony or Toni, you’ll know they wouldn’t have it any other way!), and this hake is as fresh as it gets. We’ve paired it with a classic white wine and tarragon sauce: a combination that’s light enough to let the delicate fish shine, but creamy enough to feel like a proper winter indulgence.

It’s simple, elegant, and honestly, seeing it come out of the kitchen with that aromatic sauce never fails to brighten our day. Whether you’re a regular or visiting us for the first time, it’s a dish that feels like a quiet celebration of the season.

🍺 Did You Know? The Story Behind Our Name

Did you know Toby Cottage takes its name from the iconic Toby Jugs — those cheerful ceramic mugs shaped like a seated man, often with a tricorn hat and pint in hand? 🕯️🍺

They’ve been a symbol of British tavern culture since the 18th century — and you’ll still spot a few dotted around our restaurant today if you look closely. 👀
