Today was one of those days that really puts life into perspective.
I’d just finished doing a before/after diagnostic and flashing a VW Golf TDI back to stock using our in-house database. The car was originally Stage 1 tuned by someone else, but the Silver Golf behind was tuned stage 1 by us a few months back and belonged to Adam’s dad before being passed to Adam from him.
It’s been absolutely boiling today, busy with work, cars coming and going, the usual chaos… but nothing hit me harder than what I found out today.
Adam’s dad – who was actually my customer before I even met Adam – has been diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer and has only been given a few days left to live.
I’m genuinely heartbroken.
He wasn’t just another customer. He was one of those people you remember. A lovely man, genuine, down-to-earth, and someone I had the pleasure of spending hours chatting with last year while working on his car. The kind of person that leaves an impression on you.
When I heard the news, I honestly didn't even want to charge for the job today. Some things are bigger than money, and this was one of them. I tried walking away and doing it on the house, but Adam wouldn’t let me leave without taking something.
I had tears in my eyes because cancer is something I’ve experienced far too closely in my own life. I’ve seen family members and friends taken by it, and hearing news like this brings back so much emotion.
Right now my thoughts and prayers are with Adam and his family during what must be an unimaginably difficult time. I truly wish there was more I could do.
Life is short. Hug your loved ones tighter, make that phone call, spend that extra time with people that matter. Tomorrow is never promised.
