Due to ill health I have taken the decision to hang up the learner car keys and retire from teaching.
It's been a blast the last 4 years highs and lows, early starts and late finishes, some mad singing sessions and crazy waving at other instructors, I've made some good friends and cried with laughter with many (while still in control), Changed the lives of 125 learners getting them independent and 7 PDI passes now teaching their own learners.
Safe driving folks, and have patience with those new learners on the road...remember you were one once 👋

Well done to our passes over the last few weeks, Arran, Ellie, Annie, Nicola and Michael 🚗🚗🚗🚗🚗smashed those drives 🚗

Let’s talk about the driving test backlog…
It’s still a big issue, and to be honest, it’s starting to wear a lot of people down. Learners,
instructors, even parents trying to plan ahead, everyone’s feeling it.
Here’s what I’ve been seeing lately:
• Test wait times around here are roughly 25 weeks and that's mid January (if your lucky enough to get one)
• I’ve had huge problems booking and finding tests for my own pupils that have recently passed their theory.
• Learners are feeling more pressure than ever
• For us instructors, it’s harder to plan ahead or give students a clear idea of when
they’ll be ready
Everyone’s situation is a bit different, but it all comes back to the same thing…it’s
frustrating.
Here’s how I feel about it:
Tests should only be booked in the postcode area you live in You MUST have taken some professional instruction from an ADI or a PDI (trainee instructor) to advise whether your ready for your driving test. The system in my own opinionis at breaking point with instructors up and down the UK having the same issues. I can't start new business as my current learners can't get tests so have to reduce their time in the car because of the financial outlay of lessons. Those that fail their tests struggle to find tests to resit so again can't take on a new pupil till one leaves, this in turn is stressful for both pupil and instructor.
End of the day, we all want the same thing. A fair system where learners get a proper
chance to succeed. No stress, no dodgy sites charging silly money for test slots, and no
feeling like you’re stuck in limbo.
If you’re a learner, a parent, or an instructor dealing with the same stuff, feel free to
share what it’s been like for you.
Drop a comment with your experience with driving tests, sometimes just hearing other
people’s experiences helps a bit.

Another great pass in Galashiels this morning, well done to Jessica on passing your practical test, happy safe driving...

🚗 DRIVING TEST AVAILABILITY 🚗

As we know, its not only becoming more and more difficult to book a driving test, but to actually find one available is getting impossible.

So we could try to do something about it, a few weeks ago, myself and other local driving instructors sat down with John Lamont our MP, to discuss the all challenges we face within the industry. We put across our ideas to John and he is putting more pressure on the DVSA and raising these concerns in parliament.

We as instructors are working very hard to get around the system, and trying our very best to make sure by the time our pupils sit their test, they are ready. But, if you don't feel you are ready for your test, you have, at the moment, 10 working days to cancel or amend your test date. If you do not cancel or amend and do not turn up to the test, this is wasting not only the examiners time, but the time that someone could have sat their test.

If you are looking to start learning to drive. Do not let this put you off! Make sure before you start lessons you have booked your Theory Test (if 17 or older) and keep revising so you pass first time. If you have any questions on the topics, I am happy to help.
