🔍 Inside the Part: Brass Anode Hooks for Electroforming

Not every precision-machined component needs to be complex to perform an important job.

These brass parts will be used as anode hooks within industrial electroforming tanks, supporting the anodes while also helping conduct electrical current into them.

That makes the choice of material important. Brass offers a useful combination of machinability, strength and electrical conductivity, making it well suited to components that need to perform both a mechanical and electrical function.

Once machining is complete, these parts will move on for electroless nickel plating before entering service.

It’s a good example of the low-volume, high-variety work we enjoy at Tarvin Precision.

Sometimes the challenge is a complex multi-axis component. Sometimes it’s producing a comparatively simple part accurately, consistently and from exactly the right material for the job.

🔍 Inside the Part: 7075 Aluminium for Pipeline Pigging

One of the more unusual components to come through the Tarvin Precision workshop.

Manufactured from 7075 aluminium, this large cylindrical component will form part of specialist equipment used in pipeline pigging - supporting pipeline inspection, integrity checking and maintenance.

There’s considerably more machining here than first meets the eye, including:

⚙️ Large internal and external cylindrical features
⚙️ Circumferential grooves and interface areas
⚙️ An extensive repeating pattern of machined openings
⚙️ Internal machining across a large hollow form
⚙️ Multiple features that all need to relate correctly within the finished component

Last week, the Tarvin Precision team had the pleasure of attending Coleg Cambria’s Work Experience Showcases at Wrexham and Deeside.

It was great to meet so many students interested in engineering and to chat about precision manufacturing, apprenticeships and the different career opportunities available at Tarvin Precision.

We were really impressed by the number of thoughtful questions and the genuine interest shown in the industry - and we came away with plenty of CVs to work through too!

A big thank you to Nick Tyson at Coleg Cambria for his support and for helping us connect with so many enthusiastic young people.

Now comes the difficult job of choosing which candidates could be the right fit for our apprenticeship programme!

A sizeable new arrival at Tarvin Precision this week. 👇

Our latest CMZ TA Series CNC machine has now been delivered, positioned and commissioned at our North Wales facility.

The machine travelled directly from Bilbao in Spain, arriving right on schedule before being carefully offloaded and moved into position using specialist remote-controlled skates.

It was a great example of precision at every step - from transport and lifting through to positioning, installation and commissioning.

A big thank you to the teams at CMZ and Paul Watler Machinery Movements, along with everyone involved at Tarvin Precision, for making the whole process run so smoothly.

The machine is now installed and ready for the next stage, with operator training taking place shortly before it moves into production - another investment in British manufacturing and our commitment as a proud member of Made in Britain.

🔍 Inside the Part: Stainless Steel Components for a Mass Spectrometer

Another look behind the scenes at Tarvin Precision.

These 304L stainless steel components were manufactured for use within a mass spectrometer, using a combination of 5-axis and 3-axis machining.

The first operation was completed on our 5-axis machining centre, before moving to a 3-axis operation to finish the remaining features.

Inspection was also a key part of the process, with plug gauges used to verify critical features and help ensure the required level of consistency.

It’s a great example of the precision, process control and quality assurance involved in manufacturing components for demanding scientific applications.
