Various options on this 944 S2 project we are considering selling as is. The car came to us as a running car but had suffered bore scoring so initially it was being broken for parts. As it’s such a great body we considered fitting 3.0 turbo 8v engine as pictured, as we have the majority of parts to carry out this conversion as pictured, but time is not on our side!
We also came across a replacement bottom end (3.0 16v 944 s2) with perfect bores after we removed cylinder head for inspection. So we have options to supply with 3.0 8v turbo parts or a replacement 3.0 16v s2 engine.
As you can see in pics the car has been partially stripped and all the parts can be seen pictured. All matching red panels (including bonnet not pictured)
All the important parts are still on the shell so it is not a pain to rebuild. The fuel tank, sunroof and mechanism/motor, full body loom and fuse box. Pedal box and steering column/ignition barrel all in place along with all the hvac system behind the dash. Shell is fully rolling so all the suspension and steering components are there.
The body is very good. All original and sills are all solid as well as rear 1/4s and bits behind rear wheels. A really good body shell!
The only bits missing I can think of are dashboard and door cards/carpets. Pair of front calipers. Front wings. Fog lights. The majority is all there and ready for a simple rebuild.
Lovely bridge spoiler tailgate in great condition. This alone is worth around £1000.
This would make a perfect track day project as that saves worrying about interior parts and could use some fibreglass front wings. Although easily put back on the road if u source interior bits.
This could be put back to original engine spec, or if you fancy building a monster the 3.0 turbo engine would be the one to go with!
Logbook with the car, was not long ago being used daily by previous owner before engine failure.
The s2 engine I have has the cylinder head removed, but all ancillaries are included so it can be put back together and fully running with Ecu/loom/injectors/clutch/manifolds etc
I could easily continue to break the car and sell the parts separately which would be more lucrative than selling as is, but it’s a really great basis for a project/resto or even more suited to race/track build with a great base!
944 s2 prices are fairly strong these days and the engines alone we often sell for 3-4K with ease if bores are good!
I would sell without the s2 engine as a rolling shell with all pictured parts for £3800 (not including 3.0 8v engine parts)
With the s2 engine and all ancillaries £6000
Or with the collection of 3.0 8v turbo parts for £5800
If u wanted to go 3.0 turbo route you will need to have the engine re bored with liners or coating as the block has scoring. Then u will require turbo pistons to suit and con rods.
The 3.0 package has block/3.0 crank/rebuilt 2.7 cylinder head with turbo valves/cam tower and turbo camshaft. Turbo engine mount. Turbo inlet and exhaust manifolds. Crank/cam pulleys and tensioner. Set of x8 turbo lifters. Turbo oil filter housing and oprv. Turbo oil return. Turbo sump. Magnecor lead set. Alternator and ps pump.
If the car goes without engine then both power plants would be available separately.
The 3.0 turbo 8v setup job lot would be £2200
The s2 engine complete with all ancillaries would be £3000
As can be seen there is a decent discount to take the car with an engine options. But it might be the case someone is looking to install a different engine or may already have a donor engine available hence offering minus engine options.
Hard to find decent resto projects these days that are not rotten! This is the main killer with these cars. The reason I kept hold of this one is it’s the best shell I have seen in years and so I considered keeping for myself and installing the 3.0 turbo engine option but due to customer work and other projects on the go I have decided to offer for sale.
To recap £3800 for rolling shell with pictured parts
£5800 with the 3.0 8v engine parts
£6000 with the s2 replacement engine and all ancillaries
If you think it’s expensive for a project, I can break for 10k with ease if including s2 engine.
