So, it's that time of the year again when the landspeed record family head to Runway TWOSIX at the legendary Elvington airfield, a long trip from Ireland as always but we arrived safe and well, weather was good and a great turnout for the event.
The Holeshot team were out in force and the wheelie gods were celebrating 20 years since Dodge started the event, congratulations Dave, he finally won the event with a winning speed of 203mph, an outstanding achievement. Unfortunately Cecil "Bubba" Myers, representing America, aboard our Holeshot wheelie machine had a reverse decision on a 206.854mph wheelie which would have set him in 1st place again, that's racing I suppose!
Well how did we do? Paul Milbourn was the bravest 6'3 man to climb aboard our rocket ship as we hurtled towards the finish line from a standing mile start to break the world record setting an official Guinness World Record speed of 234.7mph....35 miles per hour faster 2-up than a Kawasaki H2R ridden by a very capable rider, we'll take that!
Jack put in another sub 270mph top speed to win the 1350 class but unfortunately a few gremlins and data showing rolling off across the finish line while heading for a 280mph pass, it will come, experience encourages patience not stupidity, an overall win and a record setting speed 2-up is a successful weekend for anyone....although grumps will not be happy with that.
Congratulations Phil Wood winning the 1600 class and a huge shout to all the riders who attended again this year, as always thanks to the Straightliners crew, support staff and medical team.
We keep pushing on, those numbers are coming, a few tweaks to the bike, few more dyno runs and some fettling, weather being on our side, we might see 280 this year...keep it pinned!
As always many thanks to the photographers.
