🔵 BMW 330e hybrid - high-voltage battery repair 🔵

This 330e arrived at Burch Motor Works with a drivetrain warning and a dealership quote to replace a failed high-voltage battery cell module. Before carrying out the repair, we diagnosed the car ourselves and confirmed that cell module pack 5 was at fault.

Inside this battery are six cell modules connected together to form the complete high-voltage pack. Each module operates at around 60 volts, so replacing one involves much more than removing the faulty unit and bolting another in its place.

The customer had been quoted around £1,800 for a new module. With the vehicle’s age and mileage in mind, we sourced a tested used unit at roughly a third of that parts cost. A used module can be a sensible choice here because the modules already in the vehicle have aged through normal use. The replacement still needs to be checked and matched to the pack; “used” alone does not make it suitable.

Before installation, we measured the existing module voltages and balanced the replacement to match. Fitting a module at the wrong voltage can prevent the battery from operating correctly. This preparation is a crucial part of a successful repair.

We then fitted the module, reassembled the high-voltage battery and entered the replacement serial number into the vehicle. Next came the BMW EOS (end-of-service) test. This is part of verifying the battery after it has been opened and reassembled, including its safety and sealing checks, and obtaining the code required to complete the repair process.

After commissioning the system and clearing the faults, the 330e was able to drive in pure electric mode again. But a cleared fault code is only the start of the final check: we fully charged the battery, drove the car in electric mode to discharge it, then recharged it to confirm it worked through the cycle. No drivetrain warning returned.

The result: a properly diagnosed, balanced, commissioned and tested battery repair, with a substantial saving on the replacement part. One very happy customer back on the road!

💨 BMW X5 xDrive45e – MOT & Stage 1 Performance Remap 💨

A rather nice BMW X5 G05 xDrive45e through the workshop at Burch Motor Works 👌

First up, we carried out its MOT Test in-house before moving onto a Stage 1 engine performance remap.
And the gains on this one are certainly worth talking about! 😎

🔥 +106 bhp

600 Nm ➡️ 800 Nm
🔥 +200 Nm torque

That takes this already very capable X5 to a whopping 500 bhp and 800 Nm! 💪
