Award winning Garage 🏅 Opened in March 2015, Burch Motor Works – Independent BMW & Mini Specialists has been custom built by Husband & Wife team, Jon & Victoria Burch to offer a true alternative to BMW & Mini main dealer service, and bridging the gap between generic independent garages with limited knowledge of the two brands.The cause of all this investment and hard work starting with Jon working

for a BMW/Mini dealership for several years as a technician. Over the years Jon gained vast training & knowledge of the brands, while also gaining feelings that customers were not being treated with the correct personal service that they were paying in excess for!Christchurch was the Ideal location to provide a great service for local BMW & Mini drivers. The land was bought in 2013. Work started in early 2014, the brand new building erected by June 2014.Fitting out the office, workshop & exterior has been strenuous for the remainder of 2014, but worth it with the results to provide state of the art modern, tidy workshop heavily equipped for the BMW & Mini brands. The vast reception and clean customer waiting area has been carefully designed for maximum comfort for your visit.By cutting out the waste that large organisations have, Burch Motor Works can bring great savings to BMW & Mini drivers whilst giving great, honest specialist service. And with the constant, fast paced evolution of vehicle technology and complexity, the knowledge and equipment required is also vital.Unfortunately for generic multi vehicle independent garages this is showing, with vehicle manufacturers developing their own sophisticated systems that require expert equipment and tooling. ⚡️BMW i4 2025 crash damaged – high voltage & airbag system repair ⚡

A slightly more involved job through the workshop recently!

This 2025 BMW i4 G26 eDrive40 arrived with us following accident damage. The vehicle was completely unable to drive, with numerous crash-related faults stored across the high-voltage and safety systems.

Diagnostic testing identified:
⚡ High-voltage battery safety shutdown following crash detection
⚡ HV battery pyrofuses activated
⚡ SME (Battery Management Electronics) faults
⚡ Acceleration/drive function disabled
⚡ ACSM crash data stored
⚡ Multiple airbag, curtain and restraint system faults

The high-voltage battery was removed from the vehicle and opened to allow the activated pyrofuses to be replaced.

We initially attempted to reset the original SME using our specialist equipment. However, the swines at BMW locked the SME after the 2025 software level, meaning the original unit could no longer be reset using our equipment. Therefore, we needed to replace the SME with another unit, which was then programmed and coded specifically to the vehicle.

Once everything was reassembled and programmed, we carried out the required EOS (End Of Service) high-voltage battery testing before bringing the complete HV system back online.

The BMW i4 was alive again! ⚡🔧
With the vehicle now driving correctly, we could move onto the remainder of the crash repairs.

All of the deployed airbags and curtain airbags were replaced (excluding the driver’s airbag). As the passenger airbag deployment had damaged the dashboard, we sourced a good used replacement dashboard to help keep the repair costs down, rather than fitting an expensive new BMW dashboard.

The ACSM airbag control module was removed and sent away for specialist crash-data resetting, rather than unnecessarily replacing the complete control unit — again helping to keep the overall cost of the repair sensible.

Once everything was refitted, the restraint and safety systems were tested and the remaining faults rectified.

This isn’t something we would usually take on, but a crash-damaged BMW EV can’t simply have parts replaced and be expected to drive again. Bringing one back to life requires the correct specialist high-voltage equipment, diagnostic equipment, programming capabilities and knowledge.

So when we were asked if we could help with this one, we were happy to take on the challenge — and even happier to see it driving out of the workshop again! 👌⚡
