Important update for all learners and parents.
From 12 May 2026, the rules around booking a driving test have changed significantly, and it's worth knowing exactly what's happening.
Only learner drivers are now allowed to book, change, swap or cancel a car driving test. Driving schools, third-party apps and automated services can no longer do this on your behalf.
DVSA has already suspended over 1,178 licence numbers flagged for unusual booking activity, reported several apps to Apple and Google for removal, and suspended businesses found using bots to secure test slots.
What this means for you as a learner:
✓ Only book, change or cancel your test through GOV.UK
✓ Only pay the official DVSA fee: £62 weekdays, £75 evenings, weekends and bank holidays
✓ Do not use any app, website or social media account claiming to find or secure an earlier slot
If you want an earlier test date, the legitimate ways to do this are to change your appointment through GOV.UK yourself, or swap your test directly with another learner through DVSA.
