Beautiful low mileage saab estate for a service, new customer.
Customer says I bought the car from a fussy old man who always had it serviced at the main dealer.
I thought to myself, okay, let's see !
This is the pollen filter i removed, took 45 minutes to replace this one, a right job upside down underneath the dashboard.
Main dealer or not, mechanics can't be bothered with the hassle.
If you suffer with hay-fever, imagine breathing all this in when you turn your A.C on.
I'll always change the pollen filter on a full service.
New filter next to the old one.

If you have a ford, focus, fiesta, ka, look out for a recall that ford are doing. It's been known for years that the timing belt degrades and blocks the source of engine oil that circulates around the engine. I've seen handfuls of blown up engines and nearly blown up engines that need the timing belt replaced. I've currently got one in my yard with this problem.
It's the FORD ECO BOOST engine.
You can also look online on the mot testing system for outstanding recalls to your vehicle.
Just be wary if you have one.

TIMING BELT REPLACEMENT is a critical part of maintaining a vehicle.

If I haven't asked you, or advised you, please call or text and ask me when yours is due for replacement.
The replacement cost can be approximately £400-500 for the average vehicle, there are now more complex belts to replace and can cost even more, ford eco boost engines and many French built 3 cylinder engines are becoming increasingly difficult/expensive to replace but the repair bill for a snapped timing belt can run into costs of £1500 upward, preventative replacement is always cost effective.

Timing belts need replacement at the correct intervals to PREVENT FAILURE.
Failure will cause engine damage.

Today we've replaced the twin timing belts on a vw polo, water pump, tensioners and an idler pulley, all supplied in kit form.
The auxiliary drive belt was also replaced
(the fan belt).

Today was annual mot assessment day.
A serious and stressful day for mot testers, If you don't pass the annual assessment, you cease testing . A four hour training session with a one hour exam at the end.
It's an 80% pass needed, not much room for error.
All done for another year.

Dropping a car back to a tooting customer,
I stopped off to fit a headlight bulb to this Hyundai i10.
They just don't make things simple anymore, most modern cars need the headlight removing or a bumper removing just to replace the bulbs.

A new customer came in with a Mercedes Vito minibus 2018 which he rents for taxi work.
Unfortunately another van clipped the wing mirror, smashed the mirror glass, the indicator strip and broke the main frame of the unit.

The parts are only available from Mercedes, the copy parts are not yet available to buy.

I quoted over £800 for the complete mirror of which only £70 was labour to assemble and install the new unit, all the rest was the parts cost.
Having explained that he didn't have that kind of money, neither could I find a second hand unit, I agreed to try and rebuild the smashed framework.
Several hours later, fibreglass, filler, metal mesh and textured plastic effect spray, the invoice came to just over £450.
I think I got it right, the rental company will never know it was smashed ! !

Sadly I don't have time to update this page with various interesting jobs that get done at the workshop.
Work has been busy thanks to many regular and long term customers.
Please do remember I collect and deliver vehicles normally, and at this time of corona virus is proving a very useful tool which saves most customers coming to the workshop for mot, servicing and whatever else is needed.

The photos attached show a valvetronic variable valve timing solenoid replacement from a BMW.
The vehicle would barely drive and often sent the car into LIMP HOME MODE .
