Driving Test Booking Changes from 12 May 2026
Important updates are coming to DVSA driving test bookings:
1. Only learners can manage their tests
From 12 May 2026, only the learner driver will be able to book, change, cancel, or swap a driving test. Instructors, driving schools, and third-party apps will no longer be able to do this on their behalf.
2. Bookings must be made through GOV.UK
Learners will need to use their own DVSA account to manage bookings. Instructors can still offer guidance, but they won’t be able to handle bookings directly.
3. Maximum of two changes per booking
Test details can only be changed twice, including the date, time, or test centre. Any further changes will require cancelling and rebooking.
4. Restrictions on changing test centres
From 9 June 2026, learners will only be allowed to switch their booking to one of the three nearest test centres.
5. Why these changes are being introduced
DVSA says the updates are aimed at:
* Reducing test reselling and automated booking bots
* Preventing third parties from hoarding test slots
* Making the booking system fairer for learners
Plan ahead, book wisely, and stay prepared for your driving test.
