🚗Why are used EVs now the riskiest cars for mileage clocking? A shocking 3% of electric cars in the UK now show evidence of odometer tampering, surpassing petrol and diesel cars. This isn't just about a dodgy number; it's about hiding battery wear, and it could cost you serious cash.

Modern fraudsters use "mileage blockers" to pause odometer readings, often to avoid massive mileage penalties on P*P or lease deals. EVs like Kia and Nissan are seeing the highest rates of this scam, with over 12% affected in some cases.

This hidden mileage means a used EV's battery could be much more degraded than the dashboard suggests, leading to nasty surprises like:
🔋Significantly reduced range
🔋Faster battery degradation
🔋Lower resale value
🔋Unexpected replacement costs

Imagine buying an EV, only to find its battery is already halfway to being knackered because of 20,000 hidden miles. The proposed 3p-per-mile road tax for EVs by 2028 might even make things worse.

Don't get caught out. Always get a battery health check and scrutinise the MOT history.

Retest every decade? 🤯
Should all UK drivers be retested every 10 years? This controversial idea is back on the table, sparking huge debate across the country. It could mean every licence holder, from new drivers to those with decades behind the wheel, faces a mandatory re-evaluation.

The conversation isn't just about safety; it's about fairness, cost, and practicality. The move aims to keep our roads safer and ensure everyone driving meets modern standards.

Some argue it's overkill for experienced drivers.

Others say it's vital for road safety.
It could be costly and time-consuming.
Would it really make a difference to accident rates?

Imagine having to book lessons and resit your test after 30 years of driving – a bit of a faff, right? But what if it stopped just one accident?

Do you think a mandatory retest every decade is a good idea, or just too much hassle?

💰Why are MOT repair bills soaring? New data shows a massive 70% jump since 2022, with drivers now averaging £425 for repairs on 6-8 year old cars! This outstrips food inflation and is hitting many UK motorists hard.

It's a perfect storm of rising garage labour rates (averaging £68.51 per hour!) and increasingly complex car parts. Even a lower MOT failure rate isn't stopping the pain at the garage.

🚗Average repair bill for 6-8 year old cars: £425
🚗Some luxury SUV repairs topping £13,000
🚗Garage labour rates up to £68.51 an hour

Imagine getting a £400+ bill for your car, even if you thought you’d kept up with maintenance! With options to shop around and do pre-MOT checks, you could save a fortune.

Attention UK drivers! ⚠️ New figures show rural roads account for a shocking 60% of road deaths, despite carrying less than half the traffic. It's making many question those sat nav "shortcuts".

IAM RoadSmart is urging caution, as GPS systems often direct hundreds of vehicles onto narrow country lanes not designed for heavy flow. That quick detour could be a much bigger risk than you think.

Here's why those rural routes are more dangerous:
🚗Sharp, unexpected bends
🚗Inconsistent road surfaces
🚗Hidden agricultural vehicles or livestock
🚗Limited visibility and sightlines

Motorways and main A-roads are built with safety in mind. A few minutes saved on a shortcut might not be worth the increased risk and stress of navigating an unfamiliar, often unsuitable, country lane.

🚗New driving test booking rules are here, and they're shaking things up for learner drivers! The DVSA has slashed how many times you can swap your practical test slot and introduced stricter cancellation rules. It's all to combat test resellers and reduce the huge backlog. But is it fair on those just trying to get their licence?

Previously, you could swap your test up to six times, now it's just two. Plus, you can only swap to one of the three closest test centres. This is a direct hit to the underground market where bots snag slots and resell them for up to £200.

🚗£62 – The cost of your test, which you'll now lose if you cancel with less than 10 working days' notice.
🚗2 – The new maximum number of times you can change your booking.
🚗22 weeks – The current average driving test waiting time across the UK.
🚗64,500 – The number of no-shows last year, often linked to resellers.

Imagine finally getting a test date after months, only to find yourself ill a week before and risking your £62 fee. These changes could add a lot more stress to an already difficult process. While reducing reselling is a good thing, some argue these new rules punish genuine learners.

Think an EV breakdown means a flat battery?

Think again.

Turns out, tyre trouble is the real culprit more often than not. 🤯

Tyre trouble for EV drivers! Your electric car is far more likely to break down due to a flat tyre than a flat battery, new data shows.
This isn't "range anxiety" – it's a wheel and tyre issue.

Some reports are showing EVs suffer tyre failures at nearly twice the rate of petrol cars. Why the extra tyre punishment? Heavy battery packs put constant strain on sidewalls. Instant torque from standstill shreds rubber faster, especially with a heavy right foot. No spare wheels mean a simple puncture becomes an automatic flatbed recovery. Keep an eye on your rubber and budget for EV-specific tyres.
Driving an EV?
Be prepared for those notorious UK potholes.

Are you an EV driver who's had more tyre trouble than expected, yes☹️ or no 😍?

🚗Driverless Uber minicabs are set to hit London streets after Uber confirmed a new pilot programme with British AI firm Wayve. They're promising the same price as an UberX, but can they handle London's notoriously complex roads?

This move means a new option for city travel. A human safety driver will still be in the car during the initial phase, overseen by the Department for Transport under the new Autonomous Vehicles Act 2024.

London's streets are said to be 20 times more complex than cities like San Francisco, with their unpredictable traffic and tight spaces. Wayve's tech uses cameras and radar, avoiding expensive Lidar sensors.

🚗Same price as a regular UberX.
🚗Human safety driver present initially.
🚗Tech designed to handle complex urban environments.
🚗Pilot under new Autonomous Vehicles Act 2024.

Imagine taking a driverless minicab home after a night out. Would you trust it to navigate the late-night traffic and get you there safely?

This pilot will massively impact how we view self-driving tech. Will it be a smooth ride, or a bumpy road ahead for autonomous vehicles in the UK?

Is the push for electric cars putting YOUR job at risk? A major union warns that current ZEV mandate targets could threaten thousands of UK automotive jobs.

Unite the Union claims the government's Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) mandate forces manufacturers to cut petrol and diesel production too quickly. This could lead to massive redundancies across the industry, from assembly lines to supply chains.

Yet, the UK has already produced a record 52,888 Battery Electric Vehicles this year, showing a growing EV sector. The government also noted manufacturers actually *exceeded* 2024 ZEV targets.

Unite says targets need cutting. Others argue ambitious targets drive innovation. The debate is about jobs vs. green targets.

Could this mean big changes for car manufacturing in your area?

Is the ZEV mandate a job killer or a necessary step for the future of UK motoring?

⚡Why is public EV charging so much more expensive? The UK government has launched a review into soaring costs, up 38% since 2021, creating a huge divide for drivers without off-street parking. This could make EV ownership £1,080 a year pricier for some!

Millions of UK drivers rely solely on public charging, and the current system makes it significantly more expensive than charging at home – or even running a petrol car! The review aims to bridge this gap and make EVs viable for everyone.

⚡Public charging costs up 38% since 2021.
⚡Drivers without home charging pay £1,080 more annually.
⚡Public rapid rates are 79p/kWh, compared to 8.8p/kWh off-peak at home.
⚡VAT difference (20% public vs. 5% home) not included in review.

Imagine paying over a grand more each year just because you don't have a driveway. It’s a huge barrier for many trying to make the switch to electric.

This review could reshape the future of EV adoption in the UK, but the exclusion of VAT concerns is a sticking point. Will it be enough to level the playing field?
