Another one getting some preventative maintenance rather than waiting for something to go wrong!

🔧 PEUGEOT 3008 – WHAT STARTED AS “NO DRIVE” TURNED INTO A LITTLE MORE…

This Peugeot 3008 came in with no drive at all, so the first job was to get it in and find out exactly what had failed.

Once we started stripping it down, it quickly became clear the clutch wasn't going to be the only item needing attention.

⚠️ During removal we found:

- Suspension ball joints showing signs of failure
- Subframe captive nuts broken away, making removal considerably more involved
- Several other areas underneath requiring attention
- A clutch that had completely burnt out
- A dual-mass flywheel with excessive play

The photos tell most of the story!

This is exactly why we don't just replace the obvious failed part and send a vehicle back out. When something is apart, it's the perfect opportunity to inspect the surrounding components and identify problems before they become another breakdown.

For a business vehicle, one breakdown is inconvenient. Getting it back on the road only for another preventable problem to take it off again is even worse.

A bit of detective work on a Jaguar Mk II this week! 🔧🐆

We needed to establish exactly what oil should go in the manual gearbox and overdrive. The original Jaguar lubrication chart says SAE 30, which initially seemed straightforward — until the gearbox itself started giving us conflicting clues.

A crawl underneath revealed the answer: a Laycock de Normanville Compact A-Type overdrive, type 28/61980, coupled to the later Jaguar all-synchromesh gearbox rather than the original Moss-type installation.

That means the old handbook's SAE 30 gearbox recommendation doesn't apply to the transmission currently fitted. The later gearbox/Compact A-Type setup calls for the appropriate GL-4 gear oil instead.

A good reminder with old cars: check what's actually fitted before trusting the handbook!

And probably just as well we checked before pouring the oil in… 😅

🔧 1996 Peugeot Boxer Campervan | Rear Brake Overhaul 🚌
A good example of why older vans and campervans need regular inspections, even if they aren't covering huge mileage.
This 1996 Peugeot Boxer campervan came to us with a poor handbrake. Once we stripped the rear brakes down, it quickly became clear there was more going on than just a simple adjustment.
We found:
⚠️ Handbrake cable adjuster seized
⚠️ Rear wheel cylinders leaking brake fluid
⚠️ Brake shoe adjuster lock missing
⚠️ Rear brakes requiring a proper overhaul
We repaired the faults, replaced the necessary components and got the rear brake and handbrake system working properly again.
But the van wasn't finished with us yet... 😅
While finishing the job and testing the braking system, the old brake pipes decided it was their turn and burst under pressure, causing another brake fluid leak.
As frustrating as that might sound, we'd much rather a weakened brake pipe fail in the workshop than out on the road with the family and camper loaded up. The affected pipes were replaced, the system bled and everything checked over before the vehicle went back into service. ✅
Vehicles like this are nearly 30 years old, and age can be just as important as mileage. Brake pipes corrode, wheel cylinder seals deteriorate, cables seize and adjusters stop working—particularly on campervans that can spend long periods parked up.
