When was the last time you had your cam belt checked?

A catastrophic cam belt failure could have meant the end of this Mazda Bongo’s engine.

The belt had not been changed for a very long time, if ever. Oil leaks from camshaft seals can contaminate a cam belt and cause it to deteriorate, which is why regular inspections and preventative servicing are so important.

Thankfully, this particular Bongo has a non-interference engine, meaning it could be salvaged and repaired instead of needing a replacement engine.

A proper inspection can identify overdue maintenance and oil leaks before they turn into a breakdown.

Now available: a freshly imported Mazda Bongo 2.0 petrol campervan, built from the ground up by Mazda Bongo Auto Centre.

With just 121,000 kilometres, approximately 75,200 miles, it arrived from Japan with an immaculate, unwelded chassis. We then completed the full build, including specialist underseal protection, a new pop top roof with roof bed, and our signature slimline side conversion.

Inside, it features an ultra-wide rock and roll bed, under-seat fridge freezer, twin-burner gas hob, water storage, roof lockers, USB charging, 240V hookup, solar panel, diesel night heater and a modern media player with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and reversing camera.

Finished in three-stage Tesla Pearl White with a striking flip pearl effect, black roof and mirrors, gloss-black refurbished 18-inch alloys and a fully retrimmed interior, this is a very special Bongo ready for its next adventure.

This low-mileage 2006 Mazda Bongo began as a well-kept van with a side conversion, but its new owner had a different vision.

Working to their budget and wish list, we removed the existing side conversion and built a bespoke rear conversion in its place. The finished camper includes a rear kitchen, fridge, 240V hookup, leisure battery and split-charge system, multiple USB charging points, media player and a pop top roof.

The lower half was finished in blue pearl turquoise, with colour-coded bumpers, spoilers and grille. Refurbished gloss-black alloy wheels with new all-terrain tyres completed this very personal build.

This Mazda Bongo’s Bronze Package was about far more than a new finish.

We fitted new genuine rear wheel arches, replaced the nearside rear outer sill, side skirt and mounting bracket, and carried out a full offside rear crossmember replacement. New rear brake discs and pads, plus front shock absorbers, helped refresh the way it drives too.

The underside was then comprehensively prepared and undersealed, with the suspension components refinished in matte black. Finally, the lower half was resprayed in SVR Blue, with both bumpers repainted to complete the transformation.

This Mazda Bongo’s Bronze Package restoration began with the work that matters most: making sure it was mechanically prepared for the road ahead.
We fitted a full timing belt kit, new oil seals, rocker cover gasket, auxiliary belt and temperature sensors, then carried out a full service. New D bushes and drop links were also fitted to refresh the suspension.
With the mechanical work complete, we installed new rear wheel arches, prepared the lower bodywork and finished it in Sunburst Orange metallic. Colour-coded wing mirrors, a refreshed grille, new Mazda decals and complimentary floor mats completed the transformation.
