Race report for Bailey Cameron, Round 10 of the Club 2000 Championship at Red Lodge Karting Ltd. Bailey is racing in Senior Rotax class using Jeremy's 2025 Championship winning kart, with Jeremy as coach and 2023 Champion Alfie Campbell as mechanic.

We were all hoping for a wet race! But alas, the track was fully dry by the time we were set up and ready to race.

Practice:

Bailey settled back into the kart very quickly, having only been a couple of weeks since the Double Header. He finished the session an excellent 3rd fastest!

Heat 1:

The best place to start, pole position! 👌 a neat and tidy start from Bailey and he set off in the lead. He was immediately under pressure from a more experienced driver, holding on for a couple of laps before they made a move into the lead, Bailey sensibly didn't fight him and tucked in behind. After another couple of laps the Championship leader had worked his way through the pack and caught Bailey, again Bailey held on as best he could but the Championship leader got past and Bailey tucked in to follow him and finish the heat in 3rd 👍

Heat 2:

Bailey had his best starting position in heat 1, now he started in 7th, a scruffy start by other karts this time and Bailey dropped a couple of places, but had a ding d**g of a battle with other karts in a pack throughout the heat, one of many drivers picking up a dropdown bumper penalty in the close combat, eventually crossing the finish line in 9th and dropping 1 place to 10th after penalties were applied.

Heat 3:

Bailey's worst random grid position for the day, starting 13th with 2 novices behind him. But after a nice clean start, Bailey literally carved his way through the pack, making his way up to finish 8th on track, then promoted to 7th after penalties were applied to other drivers, a gain of 6 places! 👌

Final:

It had been another tough day but Bailey still managed to qualify 7th for the final. A good start and Bailey settled in to a nice rhythm in the pack, then after a few laps he started to make up some places, all the way up to run in 4th towards the end of the heat, he was looking good for an excellent result.... but then, a couple of laps from the finish, something changed at the back of the kart, Bailey could feel it was handling different, he wrestled the kart through the 180 corner and drifted wide onto the grass over the back of the track, he managed to get back onto the back straight and continue racing but unfortunately he had dropped back to finish 7th, then 'to add insult to injury' he had picked up a dropdown bumper penalty from bouncing over the grass which dropped him further back to 10th. Gutted 😩

Jeremy and Alfie recovered the kart back to the pits and found that 2 of the 4 rear axle bearing carrier bolts had sheared off, making the rear axle able to move up and down slightly, which would have changed the handling of the kart on each corner, but not completely detach the axle or lose drive from the chain and sprocket, a very rare failure 🤷‍♂️ It was a disappointing end to a promising final result, but Bailey knows that's racing!

We are looking forward to the next round and praying for wet weather!! 🙏

Race report for William Porter, Round 10 of the Club 2000 Championship at Red Lodge Karting Ltd. William is racing in the Junior Rotax class using his own Lando Norris kart, with Jeremy as coach and mechanic, but William himself is preparing his kart for race days and is learning from Jeremy how to look after the kart throughout the day 👌

Fresh from a wet test day at Rye House, his first experience of wet conditions in a Junior Rotax, William wasn't as keen as Kay'ce for a wet race day! And he was glad when he arrived at Red Lodge and the track was drying up nicely. Jeremy helped William change his sprocket first thing in the morning and he was ready for practice. As with Kay'ce, it was split practice and random grids through the heats.

Practice:
William settled back in to a nice rhythm and adjusted back to the flowing corners of the Red Lodge track, finishing 10th 👍

Heat 1:

As William is still a Novice for this round, he took his first random grid position of 19th behind the other 2 novices at the back of the grid. It was a scruffy start with 2 aborted starts due to some other karts not being in correct formation, but William kept it neat and tidy, making up 1 place through the first few corners. On lap 2 he made up another place and started a magnificent charge up the order! By lap 7 he was up to 15th! He finished the heat there, but after some penalties were applied to other drivers, William had finished 12th! A fantastic start to the day 👌

Heat 2:

William's random grid position for this heat was 19th .... 🤔 ... but this time he was in between the other 2 novices. Another scruffy start but not for William, by the end of lap 1 he was up to 15th! And lap 2 he moved up to 14th and maintained that position until the finish, a gain of 5 places 👍

Heat 4 (William's 3rd heat as the drivers race 3 out of 4 heats to keep the grid numbers low):

This time William started in 18th, ahead of the other 2 novices. Again William made a great clean start moving up 1 position straight away, but it was a tougher race this time and he finished in 16th, but still ahead of the other 2 novices.

B Final:

William had qualified 4th for the B Final, just behind Kay'ce on the grid, but it was going to be tough to keep some much more experienced drivers behind, they had a tough day and would push hard to make it into the top 4 to gain a place at the back of the A Final grid. And William, as with Kay'ce, was pushed wide at the start, unfortunately tumbling down to 8th at the end of the first lap. He fought hard to make up some places but couldn't get past the much more experienced drivers, finishing in 7th after one of the top 3 finishers was disqualified for being underweight.

Overall it was a good days racing, William showed very good kart control and maturity, with some good clean overtakes 👍 he has now completed the minimum 3 rounds as a Novice, so if the Race Director is happy with his performance, he should be able to come off the Novice plates at the next round, and won't have to start at the back of the grid anymore 👍

Race report for Kay'ce Fenner, Round 10 of the Club 2000 Championship at Red Lodge Karting Ltd. Kay'ce is racing in the Junior Rotax Class using her own engine in Jeremy's kart, with Jeremy as coach and mechanic, and Brian as Mentor 😁

It was a much shorter wait to get racing again, only being a couple of weeks since the Double Header, and we had finally had some rain! It was pouring down on the Friday just before race day and Kay'ce was excited to have a wet race.... but no such luck, race day morning the sky was clear and the sun was quickly drying the track. Kay'ce had a better set of used slick tyres for this round, and Jeremy had made a slight adjustment to the kart setup, closer to Jeremy's Senior setup, getting Kay'ce ready to move up to the Senior class next year 😉

Practice:
A larger number of entries for this round meant the Race Director switched to the random grid format and split practice. The track was a little 'green' after the rain the day before, so it was a little slippery, add to that Kay'ce needed to scrub the tyres in .... she felt the change to the setup straight away and adapted so quickly! Such a natural talent and instinct, Kay'ce was soon up to speed and she finished the practice session 6th out of 14 karts 👍

Heat 1:

First random grid position was 12th out of 20 karts. After 2 aborted starts due to some other karts not being in correct formation, they were finally underway and Kay'ce neatly maintained her position for the first couple of laps. She then came under a lot of pressure from 2 experienced drivers behind and dropped back to 14th by lap 4, but Kay'ce knows what to do, she tucked in behind those 2 and went with them as they picked off one driver after another, with Kay'ce finishing in 11th, an excellent comeback and just outside the top 10 👍

Heat 2:

Starting 6th for this heat, Kay'ce kept good formation but others were messy again, forcing 2 aborted starts once again. When they got racing, Kay'ce moved straight up to 4th, a fantastic start! .... but on the second corner she was bumped from behind and started to get spun round, Kay'ce did her best to correct the kart and keep going, but several karts were pushing the offending kart into the side of Kay'ces kart and unfortunately they ground to a halt stuck together 😩🤦‍♂️ the rest of the pack disappeared down the track as the marshals safely separated all the karts stuck in the side of Kay'ces, but by the time she got going, she was running in 19th. As before, and as Jeremy teaches, Kay'ce shrugged it off, got her head down and set about catching the karts in front. She managed to catch and pass 3 other karts to finish a very creditable 16th.

Heat 3:

The random grids hadn't been kind to Kay'ce today, for this heat she lined up 9th, and yet another scruffy start, Kay'ce got forced wide and dropped back to 13th, but again she showed her strength and determination, got her head down and pushed to regain some positions, making her way back up to 11th. Unfortunately on lap 9 she tried an overtake through the Senna S but ran out of room, rather than nudge the kart she was trying to overtake, Kay'ce braked hard and gracefully spun round coming out of the corner, by the time she safely recovered Kay'ce was back in 15th and ran out of time to try to regain some positions.
Most drivers would be fed up and quite grumpy by now, but not Kay'ce! She was still happy and smiling coming back into the pits after each heat, knowing she did her best to recover positions, make good clean overtakes... and she had beaten her personal best lap time since jumping into a Junior Rotax kart!! 😁 Jeremy's setup adjustment had worked!

B Final:

With all the drama she had been through in the heats, Kay'ce had qualified 2nd in the B Final, only just missing out on the A Final by a couple of points. She took her position on the front row for the start, but several other more experienced drivers had a tough day too, starting behind her, they would be very keen to finish in the top 4 to join the back of the A Final grid. Being on the outside through the first corners, Kay'ce knew it was going to be tough to hold on, and the inevitable happened, she got pushed wide through the first few corners and ended up running in 6th at the end of the first lap. Again she showed her strength and determination, chasing the karts in front, but after trying really hard to make up some places, she had to settle for 6th. We were just recovering the kart from Parc Ferme when we found out that one of the drivers ahead of Kay'ce had picked up a penalty and dropped behind Kay'ce, promoting her to 5th... then one of the top 3 finishers was underweight on the weighbridge! He was disqualified and Kay'ce was promoted to 4th! She had made the A Final!! 😲

A Final:

Kay'ce took her position on the back row of the A Final. She was quite tired by now after a busy day! Then, just as the grid were joining the track to form up for the rolling start, Kay'ces starter motor wouldn't engage! We tried to bump start the kart, but we couldn't get it going, the starter motor had died! 😩 we were gutted as we recovered the kart back to the pits and the A Final started without her, a position Jeremy has been in before with a random starter motor failure on the Final grid..... but again Kay'ce shrugged it off, smiling as she grabbed her tools and started helping strip the kart down ready to load in the van.

As we have said before, all of us at Jeremy Lock Motorsport couldn't be more proud of Kay'ce, how she races, how she bounces back from issues and setbacks, to thoroughly enjoy her racing! We are really looking forward to the last two rounds with her in the Junior Rotax class, and even more so when she moves up to the Senior Rotax class next year 😁👌

Race report for Kay'ce Fenner, Round 9 of the Club 2000 Championship at Red Lodge Karting Ltd. Day 2 of the Double Header! Kay'ce is racing in the Junior Rotax Class using her own engine in Jeremy's kart, with Jeremy as coach and mechanic, and Brian as Mentor 😁

The entry numbers for the Junior Rotax class were lower than yesterday, so the race director switched back to qualifying format. The weather conditions were similar to yesterday, but the forecast did threaten rain towards the end of the day!

Qualifying:

With no practice available it was straight out on track to qualify. Kay'ce soon settled in to a nice rhythm again, having raced yesterday she was fully 'dialled in' to the kart and track straight away, finishing a fantastic 13th out of 21 karts! Her best Qualifying position so far since she started racing in the Junior Rotax class, and her first qualifying session without being a Novice 😁 A great start to the day 👌

Heat 1:

The start was a little scruffy and Kay'ce got squeezed out dropping 2 places in the first few corners, but she soon regained 1 place on the second lap. Unfortunately on lap 4 she clipped the type wall on the inside of the Senna S, the kart behind was so close that he couldn't avoid Kay'ce, and as she spun round they became locked together on the side of the track. It took a little while for the marshall to be able to safely untangle the 2 karts, so by the time Kay'ce got going again she was in 21st and last 😞 as she did yesterday, Kay'ce shrugged it off, kept racing and was brilliant under blue flags to avoid slowing the leaders.

Heat 2:

The only trouble with the qualifying format, is if you have problems early in the day, you have a more difficult challenge trying to move forward through the heats to improve your final starting position. But Kay'ce was looking on the bright side, as she always does 😁 with no pressure from behind she could focus on moving forward .... and she did just that! Making up 4 places she finished 17th

Heat 3:

A good start this time and Kay'ce made up 3 places on the first lap! On lap 3 she was looking to pass another kart going into the Senna S, unfortunately the kart in front clipped the tyres on the inside of the corner, just as Kay'ce did in heat 1, but this time the kart 'jumped' sideways instead of getting spun round and Kay'ce was perfectly positioned to nip through on the inside to take the place. Unfortunately the corner marshall saw the kart in front of Kay'ce jump sideways and called an 'overtaking by contact' penalty! Kay'ce couldn't have made contact, otherwise her front bumper would have been pushed back into the 'dropdown' position, but her bumper was still set in the normal position 🤷‍♂️ she carried on and finished the heat in 12th place on track. We did ask the race director to investigate the penalty but the marshall was adamant that Kay'ce had made contact, so there was no chance of having the penalty removed. With the penalty applied she only moved back 1 place to end up 13th. Still an excellent gain of 4 places through the heat 👍

Final:

After another tough day, Kay'ce had qualified 17th in the final, as always she was still happy and smiling and excited to get racing again, looking to gain a couple of places 👌 well luck was on her side this time! A messy start at the front of the grid saw several karts spinning off or being pushed wide in the first couple of corners! Kay'ce managed to thread her way through the chaos and found herself in 12th place!! 😁 for the rest of the final she was locked in a battle with the kart in front, swapping places several times before Kay'ce finished a fantastic 12th on track.... then after penalties were applied, she found herself in 10th!! Her first top ten finish in the Junior Rotax class! And she had only just come off novice plates the previous day!! 😄

A satisfying end to a roller coaster weekend!! But that's racing and Kay'ce loves it! 😁👌 we are really looking forward to the next rounds.

Race report for Bailey Cameron, Round 9 of the Club 2000 Championship at Red Lodge Karting Ltd. Day 2 of the Double Header! Bailey is racing in Senior Rotax class using Jeremy's 2025 Championship winning kart, with Jeremy as coach and 2023 Champion Alfie Campbell as mechanic.

After a tough day yesterday, we were hoping things would be a bit easier for everyone in the team today! 🤞 Jeremy had been studying the laptimes and data from yesterday, the engine still had a bent radiator mount after the impact of the crash yesterday morning, so Jeremy decided to run the spare engine that he had been testing on Friday, just as a precaution.

Practice:

Bailey settled back into the kart and the spare engine was looking good.

Heat 1:

Bailey's first random grid position for the day was 10th, a reasonably clean start but straight away he was stuck in a pack and didn't have any opportunity to move forward without the risk of dropping back, midway through the heat, a more experienced driver managed to get past him, so Bailey ended up finishing in 11th

Heat 2:

A 3rd place start for this heat, but there was drama on the warm up lap as the pole sitter right in front of Bailey was suffering engine problems and had to pull off the track, the start marshall aborted the start twice so the track marshals had time to clear the stationary kart off the track safely. They got racing on the 3rd attempt and Bailey tucked in to second place, but was under immense pressure straight away from much more experienced drivers, and it looked like Bailey's engine was a little choked up after so many slow laps. Bailey held on as best he could and still finished 6th.

Heat 3:

Starting 8th this time, the random grids hadn't been kind to Bailey today, but he got a great start, moving up to 5th by the end of the first lap, but on the second lap, an 'opportunistic' move from the kart behind Bailey clipped his back bumper and spun Bailey into the tyre wall just after the 180 corner, the offending kart then swerved across the track and caused a chain reaction crash for 3 or 4 karts, with one driver forced out of his kart as he bumped the tyre wall over the back of the track! He ended up standing upright beside his kart like a gymnast! A red flag was called to make sure the driver was ok and because it would be too dangerous to recover so many karts under yellow flags. Luckily Bailey was ok and got going again, but he had pretty much had enough now! Everything seemed to be stacked up against him this weekend! The race director called for a restart and the grid positions would be taken from the previous lap before the red flag, a 'countback' as per the regulations. The drivers were repositioned on the grid ready for a rolling restart, and luckily Bailey was back into 5th position as they got racing again. But the nudge into the tyres must have done some damage, Bailey held on as best he could but ended up finishing 8th.

Final:

It had been one of those days again, 'character building' as some people say! Infuriating is the word we would use! But that's racing, Bailey is experienced enough to look forward and keep pushing 👌 he lined up 9th for the final and got stuck in, but he was in the pack again! He managed to move up to 8th on the last lap when the leader pitted to retire! It was either the fact that the leader wasn't in the Club 2000 Championship and he was being kind, or something more suspicious involving having his engine checked at scrutineering after the finish, we will never know 🤷‍♂️

Another tough day for Bailey, but he still retains 3rd place in the Championship, still a magnificent achievement in his first season in a Senior Rotax, we are looking forward to the weather changing and then see what happens when it's wet and greasy 😉
