Found an early Haynes manual under the seat of my Lomax when taking them out for replacement.

Printed in 1981, obviously used by its original owner. I’d just bought a new version, printed 1998, when I found it, sods luck I didnt find it earlier.

Anyway, I’ve found a mistake in it, so feel I should write to Haynes so they can recall all copies of the 1981 version, I think they’ll be pleased as I’ll be saving them some embarrassment, I imagine there’ll be a reward innit for me 👍

For those interested, the diagram showing carb float adjustment in the 1981 shows the measurement line at the top of the float, whilst stating 18mm distance.

The 1998 version correctly shows the measurement line through the centre of the float 👍

Ive amended my copy for the benefit and gratitude of future generations….

My latest toy, an Ultrasonic Cleaning Bath 🙂

Rescued it from a skip at work a couple of years back and its sad in shed ever since.

Used it on my carb refurb, amazing difference, a brilliant bit of kit.

Was extolling its virtues to my buddy Phil who rides old British bikes, he turned up last night with a front wheel hub he want to rebuild, so we gave it a go.

Temp at 55deg, ran it for about 30mins. Needed a very light wire brush and water rinse-off, he’s well pleased!

So, having dried the carb afters its ultrasonic bath, I noticed some wear damage on the top half. On closer inspection I can see a hole in the carb body.

This was covered in oil before, glad I cleaned it now, putting it back damaged would have been annoying!

So today I have discovered the joy of the ultrasonic cleaning bath !

Stripped the solex down, not been cleaned in its history I reckon, as I want to put a 130 jet in it (currently a 125)

I rescued an ultrasonic from a skip at work, so thought I’d give it a go.

So, since my last post, looking forward to a new workshop, it all went a bit pear shaped…….planners told me I couldn’t have a nice sexy double garage as it would look out of place 🙄

So, whilst obviously cursing them with boils, suppurating sores and a perpetually itchy arse, I’ve had to come up with Plan B.

Behold, a folding trike cover!

And behold againest, a shed/small workshop!!

Not ideal, but free of the burden of planning permission………

And beholdeth a thirdst time, my overbearingly large motorhome, approx a metre taller than the garage would have been, now welcoming visitors to the area 🤣

Slight detour on progress with the 223…..

So far, I’ve been working in my parents garage (I’m 60 this year, so that 44 years of hogging their garages 🤣)

But soon no more! I’ve had the concrete base put in for my very own workshop - at last, somewhere to store not only the Lomax, but also all the tools/detritus that goes with car ownership.

The irony here is that I did have a single garage which we pulled down in order to build an annexe for my parents to live in, and as we’re selling their bungalow/garage, I’ve finally been pushed into sorting something decent out!

So, 17’ x 17’ double garage going in - i’ve actually got stuff in position so garage will be built around it.
