Yuck! Golf R rear diff rebuild

I’ll let the pics do the talking on this one.
Full main bearing replacement.
Full set of seals including the central twin seal for dividing the diff and Haldex unit.
Preloads and backlash reset.
Full clean and rebuild.

Sometimes, you get asked to do things you don’t like but when needs must you make an exception.
This CG flywheel for Teamoll motorsport is now sporting a new clutch plate which is thicker than the original.
Because of this the clutch fingers are laying too far towards the clutch.
It doesn’t sound much but 0.8mm has to be removed from the face. Usually I’d pop this in the lathe but I know from experience that even with a good insert and a relatively slow speed there’d be vibrations or issues with hot spots so I setup the rotary table and milled it off.

It’s now ready for the new AP racing hydraulic release bearing setup ( adaptor plate from Aantepastebak.nl) 👍🏻

Kalmar 6spd Dog race box service.

Tim from Teamoll motorsport ( who I sponsor) took a trip down with his Kalmar dogbox.
There was no real issue, it was literally a strip/inspect . Until it came apart……….

These come apart quite easily in the right order and within the hour it was in bits in the bench with some extra debris. Luckily, this was just a failed star washer on 5th/6th and the bulk was on the magnet.
All bearings were in good order with just the pinion shaft requiring an extra 6thou of preload.
As the diff was coming apart to clean we checked the breakaway preload, hmmmm, 20N/m . Just 100N/m off the original new figure! So, full strip and assess, measure the plates, assemble with different thicknesses, measure and repeat, then repeat over and over until we got the golden figure, 120N/m !
It’s tedious, monotonous and smelly but well worth doing right !
With that sorted the box was re-assembled.

Just to add, the dogs are in fantastic shape. Used properly without clutching is key to prevent bouncing out of gear and is a testament to the driver in all fairness. He’s not sympathetic but a hard and precise change does the job.

In addition instead of the problematic mechanical clutch arm and release bearing a new billet adaptor was sourced from .nl (Johan will sort you out) which will allow a motorsport hydraulic release bearing to be used.

A quick note to anyone who’s been in touch and hasn’t had a reply.

At this moment in time I can’t take anything in due to a lack of space.
Until I have finished jobs picked up I’m literally on stop.

If you’re on a tight time scale I can recommend different places depending on what you require .

01e 5spd repair.

Not something I usually take in due to not stocking spares but this was (luckily)a straight forward case of knackered rings.
A full strip revealed the common 1st/2nd ring delamination but luckily the hub sleeve was still good.
Customer also said the 3rd could be an issue to so was swapped out.
A full clean and check, set of seals and a preload and this is ready to go back in with minimal cost/time frame 👍🏻

Full pb engine/box build.

So, this little 8v combo came in a while back . The box required a refresh and the engine a complete rebuild after some impressive piston failure.

The box had a full check/rebuild, full bearings, 5th ratio change plus we gave it a full powdercoat.

The engine on the other hand……
Cylinder head had a full flow job, seats cut, uprated springs, modified guides/valves, stem seals, tappets and skimmed. Chambers CC’d ready for the block numbers as the gasket face had a good skim !

Cylinder block fully stripped, cleaned, bores checked/honed and then deck skimmed to clean up and then powder coated.
New KS pistons/rings, new H beam rods, oil pump, mains/big ends, ht main bolts, ARP head studs, new crank/aux shaft seals, Reinz head gasket and small parts blasted/costed.
Crankshaft fully polished, rods/pistons balanced and weight matched. Sump cleaned/coated and the inlet manifold cleaned/coated. Piston CC measured and CR worked out 👍🏻

Rebuilt to factory tolerances and torque figures etc Lucas and arp l**e used where required. Arp stretch gauge for rod bolts. Norbar torque wrench for others. Arp feeler blades for ring gapping etc etc

There’s way more parts/process to this but I’ve been to ged since then and can barely remember what my name is these days 😂

Quickly sorted and now ready to go.
Stepped dowels 6.15/6.75mm sorted the jiggery/pokery issue and after an extensive balance to the pressure plate the flywheel took very little.

Flywheel was also degreased and blasted and the face checked for wear/runout.
