π οΈ Oil Filter: The Engineβs First Line of Defense
Your engine runs on oil β but not just any oil. It needs to stay clean, debris-free, and well-circulated to protect all the moving parts under your hood. Thatβs where the oil filter comes in.
π How Does an Oil Filter Work?
Every time you start your car, the engine oil begins flowing to reduce friction and cool the moving components. But over time, that oil collects:
Dirt
Metal shavings
Carbon particles
And even sludge from burnt fuel
The oil filter traps all this debris before it can recirculate and damage your engine.
Inside the filter:
Oil flows in through small holes around the base.
It passes through a pleated filter media that catches impurities.
Clean oil exits through the center and goes back into the engine.
This happens every second your car is running. A clogged filter wonβt just reduce performance β it can starve your engine of lubrication, causing overheating, wear, and even engine failure.
π¨ Signs of a Bad or Clogged Oil Filter:
Oil pressure warning light on the dash
Unusual engine noise (grinding/ticking)
Dirty or black oil
Overheating engine
Poor fuel economy
π§ Why the Oil Filter Matters
A healthy filter extends engine life, improves performance, and boosts fuel economy. Changing your oil without changing the filter is like showering and putting back on dirty clothes.
π When Should You Replace It?
Every 5,000β10,000 km or at every oil change
Sooner if you drive in dusty or extreme conditions
Never ignore your oil filter β itβs cheap to replace but expensive to ignore βοΈ
