🏁 Behind The Wheel – The Original Ford Supervan

Did you know the original Ford Supervan was bought by a Ford apprentice for just £500?

That apprentice was Andy Browne, and what he actually bought was "a shell and four wheels."

Over the following years, Andy painstakingly rebuilt what would become one of the most recognisable Ford vehicles ever created.

Fast forward to 2015, and Andy came to Image Wheels looking for a bespoke set of wheels worthy of this legendary machine.

We manufactured a set of our 15 x 15" RN5 three-piece split rim wheels, finished with gloss black centres and polished outer rims—a timeless combination for a true Ford icon.

With the Ford Transit celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2025, the original Supervan has once again been taking centre stage, featuring in Ford's celebrations at the Dunton Technical Centre, alongside appearances at countless shows and magazine features over the years.

It's a privilege to know that Image Wheels are part of the continuing story of one of Britain's most famous performance vehicles.

🏁 Behind The Wheel – A Turbo Era Formula One Legend

What do you do when you're restoring one of the rarest Formula One cars in existence?

You make sure it's sitting on the right wheels.

We've had the pleasure of working with Ian Rowlance of R64.com for many years, but this latest project was something truly special.

We were commissioned to manufacture a bespoke set of centrelock 5-spoke billet wheels for Patrick Tambay's 1985/86 Haas Lola THL1B Formula One challenger.

After a remarkable 26-year restoration, the car has returned to life, having not run for over 40 years. Powered by the legendary Ford Cosworth GBA turbo V6 – the most powerful Formula One engine ever produced by Ford/Cosworth – this incredible machine has already appeared at Goodwood, Shelsley Walsh, and most recently the Classic Nostalgia Show.

Even better, Ian let us know how the wheels have been performing:
"Sorry it's taken so long but please find some photos of the wheels attached 👍 They are brilliant and handled up to 750bhp to date 😍"

Special cars deserve special wheels, and if you’re into your classic Fords you’ll no doubt know how special this car is!

This right here is the TRIPLEX Capri raced by Colin Vandervell in 1976/77 and Gerry Marshall in ‘78, restored back to its race winning best by Andrew Willis at 25/7 Race and Restoration.

As one of the few race Capris not to run Minilite/style wheels, Andrew commissioned us to produce a custom set of wheels with all the style of the originals it ran in period but with modern 3-piece strength and design flexibility to fit just perfectly - and that’s exactly what we did in the shape of these 13x7” Billet Specials, AKA totally custom designed wheels.

Not to blow our own trumpet too much or anything, but we think they came out pretty nicely…😎🎺
