⚠️ THE IMPORTANCE OF REGULAR SERVICING ⚠️

We were recently called out to inspect a Ford Transit Connect after the customer became concerned about the condition of the engine oil and requested a service.

What we found was one of the worst cases of neglected engine oil we’ve seen for quite some time.

The oil had become so thick with sludge that it could literally be dug out with a screwdriver. Before carrying out the service, we spent time removing as much contamination as possible and then used an approved engine flush to help break down the sludge within the engine.

Once we began draining the oil, it became clear just how severe the problem was. Despite the engine being fully up to operating temperature, the oil was draining extremely slowly due to its condition.

We successfully carried out the first oil and filter change, but further work has been strongly recommended before this vehicle is returned to the road.

This is a perfect example of why servicing should never be ignored or delayed. Engine oil is the lifeblood of your engine. It lubricates moving parts, removes contaminants, helps control temperatures, and protects against wear. When servicing is neglected, sludge builds up, oil passages become restricted, and expensive engine damage can follow.

A simple oil service costs a fraction of what an engine replacement will cost.

🔧 Mercedes GLC 63 AMG – Suspension Repair & Wheel Alignment Completed ✅
A customer came to us a couple of weeks ago with an irritating squeaking noise coming from the steering and suspension system on their Mercedes GLC 63 AMG.
After carrying out an initial inspection, we quickly traced the fault to worn spring link control arms. These components play a vital role in maintaining suspension geometry, steering precision, vehicle stability and ride comfort. When they wear, they can cause squeaking and knocking noises, poor handling characteristics and increased wear on other suspension components.
The customer authorised the repair, and we replaced both spring link control arms before carrying out a full four-wheel alignment to ensure everything was set back to manufacturer specification.
Once completed, we performed a thorough road test to confirm the repair had been successful. The squeaking noise had completely disappeared, the vehicle was driving perfectly, and the customer was delighted with the result.

🔧 BMW Misfire Diagnosis & Repair 🔧

This BMW came to us after the owner had already spent a significant amount of money following a main dealer diagnosis for an engine management light and rough running concern.

The dealer recommended spark plugs, ignition coils and all four injectors. These parts were fitted elsewhere, but unfortunately the cylinder 3 misfire remained.

After carrying out our own diagnostics, we confirmed the misfire and found cylinder 3 injector performance was significantly different from the others. Using both live data and traditional diagnostic techniques, we identified a faulty replacement injector.

We replaced the injector, cleared the fault codes and carried out a full road test. The misfire was completely resolved and the customer left with a correctly repaired vehicle.

A great reminder that new parts don’t always mean good parts, and accurate diagnosis is key to avoiding unnecessary costs.

⚠️ A Personal Experience & Important Warning for Ford Transit Owners ⚠️

This week, I experienced something I never expected with my own 2023 Ford Transit Custom.

The van has covered just 49,000 miles, which is well below the manufacturer’s recommended interval for wet belt replacement. However, while driving on the motorway on Wednesday night, the wet belt suffered a complete failure, resulting in catastrophic engine damage. Unfortunately, the engine is now beyond economical repair and requires replacement.

As a mechanic, I understand the importance of regular servicing and maintenance, and this has been a stark reminder that manufacturer service intervals aren’t always a guarantee.

For anyone driving a vehicle fitted with a wet belt system, please don’t ignore the risks. It is absolutely vital that the correct oil and filters are used during servicing, as the wrong specifications can accelerate belt deterioration and significantly reduce its lifespan.

I’ve been extremely unlucky to suffer a failure at such low mileage, but I would strongly recommend all Ford Transit owners consider having their wet belt inspected regularly and seriously think about replacing it before 40,000 miles for peace of mind.

A preventative wet belt replacement is far cheaper than an engine replacement.

🔧 Mercedes A-Class – Severe Loss of Power & Multiple Warning Lights Diagnosed and Repaired 🔧

This Mercedes A-Class came to us with a severe lack of power and a dashboard illuminated with multiple warning messages, including ESP, BAS and PRE-SAFE system faults.

Using the official Mercedes-Benz XENTRY Star Diagnostic System, we carried out a full diagnostic procedure and investigated the fault codes stored within the vehicle’s control modules. Following Mercedes-Benz technical guidance, we identified a known issue relating to increased resistance and poor contact within the accelerator pedal wiring and connector circuit.

After further testing, we carried out the recommended repair by:

✅ Replacing the accelerator pedal connector plug
✅ Replacing the affected wiring terminals/pins
✅ Recalibrating the accelerator pedal
✅ Clearing fault codes and carrying out final system checks
✅ Road testing the vehicle to confirm the repair

Following the repair, the warning messages were eliminated, full engine performance was restored, and the vehicle was returned to the customer operating as intended.

🔧 Mercedes A-Class Suspension Repair – Mobile Service 🚐
We were called out last night to assist a customer after a minor accident involving a kerb, which unfortunately resulted in damage to the vehicle’s lower control arm and track rod end.
The customer had already sourced the replacement parts, so our job was to remove the damaged components and fit the new parts to get the vehicle safely back together.

🔧 Nissan Repair & MOT Preparation Completed 🔧

Last week we had this Nissan in with an airbag warning light illuminated on the dashboard, as well as being due for its MOT.

As always, we started by carrying out a full diagnostic scan and basic system checks to identify the cause of the fault.

After further investigation, we found the clock spring had failed, causing the airbag warning light to remain illuminated.

To ensure a reliable repair, we sourced a genuine replacement part through the main dealer and carried out the following work:

✅ Full diagnostic investigation
✅ Fault traced to a failed clock spring
✅ Genuine replacement part sourced and fitted
✅ System recalibrated
✅ Fault codes cleared

🔧 Weekend Breakdown Assistance – Mercedes Vito 🔧

Over the weekend, we were contacted by a customer who had suffered a non-start issue with their Mercedes Vito.

The customer requested that we attend the breakdown location and asked us to bring a replacement battery with us, just in case it was required.

Upon arrival, we carried out the necessary diagnostic checks and battery testing to accurately identify the cause of the fault.

After testing the vehicle, we confirmed that the battery had failed and was no longer capable of starting the engine.

🔧 Mercedes V-Class Repairs Completed Over The Weekend 🔧

This weekend we attended a 2021 Mercedes V-Class for one of our customers who relies on the vehicle daily for their chauffeur business, transporting customers day and night. Reliability, comfort and safety are essential for a vehicle that spends so much time on the road.

The customer initially reported a noise coming from the rear brakes.

Following a thorough inspection, we found the rear brake discs were heavily worn and the rear parking brake shoes were sticking.

To rectify the issue, we carried out the following repairs:

✅ Replaced rear brake discs
✅ Replaced rear brake pads
✅ Replaced rear parking brake shoes
✅ Adjusted and tested the parking brake system

During our inspection, the customer also mentioned that the rear suspension felt excessively bouncy.

After further checks, we found both rear shock absorbers had deteriorated and were no longer performing as they should.

We therefore carried out:

✅ Replacement of both rear shock absorbers

The final issue was an annoying rattle coming from the rear tailgate area.

After investigating the concern, we found the tailgate required adjustment. We carefully adjusted the rear tailgate, carried out a road test and confirmed the noise had been eliminated.

Another vehicle repaired and back on the road with all reported concerns rectified.
