Coastbusters Challenge A 2708 mile drive around Britain's coast, raising money for Charity.

4 men, 1 1998 Land Rover Freelander bought for £500, and 4 days of non-stop driving around the coast of Britain, all in the name of charity! Local car enthusiasts Peter Westaway, Anthony Kane, Norman Bryant, and Chris Grant are aiming to make the 2708 mile journey in 4 days or less. Starting in Barnstaple, Devon they will travel north, up into Wales, then onto Cumbria, South West Scotland, John o'

Groats, Eastern Scotland, down to Yorkshire, through the Home Counties, following the coast still around to the lovely town of Brighton, West some more into South Devon and into the far west reaches of Cornwall including Lands End, and finally back home to Barnstaple for a well-earned pint! Like our page and follow our twitter (linked in the "About" section) to follow our story as we lead up to the event and keep up with our coast-wide shenanigans in April 2018!

Well Jeff now has yet another new owner. He went to Bill the morning after this photo was taken at our welcome home party who gave a nice donation to the cause. Well now Bill has moved him onto into the caring hand of Bex who was at the finishing line to welcome us home in her Freelander.
I am pretty sure Bex will have Jeff getting dirty in the fields and green lanes. Good luck and hope he serves you well.🤔

The team would like to thank Nikki from Scotty's Little Soldiers for the letter that arrived in the post today. If I could give a shout to John Stitt from Lyncroft Stores Landkey who stepped in at short notice when Norman had to drop out. Who played a major part in getting us to the total we raised.
Keep up the good work Nikki and your team.

Well after an epic adventure and a great party last night comes the morning and as with every great party a sobering thought. Its time we say a fine farewell to I guess the quiet star of our team.
Yes Jeff Freelander, this old 180,000 mile banger in some peoples eyes and I would say ours. But against the odds and even in Land Rover forums much doubt about how Jeff Freelander would arrive home. But no recovery truck in sight. Our trusty vehicle had been serviced, new glow plugs etc and a good check over prior to setting off. This paid off and we had no issues it went better than expected with a assumed 22mpg on firs fill gave 28mpg then on the last a staggering 38mpg which on an average over the trips mileage is 34.43mpg on a fully loaded car and as aerodynamic as a wall. Jeff handled well for his age and I thing we all had a comfortable journey. This is why we are pleased hes gone to a good home. Bill & Nicola and young Jack who gave a nice donation to our charities Scotty's Little Soldiers & ChemoHero in order to secure his future.
Bill said he has every intention of keeping Jeff as he is with the Coastbuster Challenge Logo and the rest of the decals staying on, he is also part of Land Rover Freelander groups so will be attending many shows and ive been told a large Land Rover event in Warwick. I'm sure with the memorabilia from our trip he will be a big success. As we had several come out to see him and donate on our travels. So if you see Jeff be sure to give a toot and a friendly wave, He may even be with a group of other Hippo's.

What a great night at The Jack Russell.
A big thanks to Paul for putting together our Coastbusters Challenge welcome home party. With Shelleys Snacks, live music from the awesome Bicycle Repair Man. Then topped off with a fantastic crowd of supporters and sponsors it could not be any other than a success.
The pub still not fully opened due to it's recent flooding not that long ago, was packed and with a lovely evening was buzzing both inside and out.
The live band Bicycle Repair Man played a session and during the break we held a raffle. This was so popular the girls had a job to keep up, but what can you expect with such fantastic prizes from local busisnesses such as a 2ltr Tub of Hocking's Dairy Cream Ices - Official, 12"X8" mega pasty from Blackwells Pasties , Carvery for four at any 3 Star Brend Hotels to an amazing Mustang Blast driving a classic Ford Mustang. and so many more. This was then followed by two Live auctions with a Clay Shoot experience and any Land Rove vehicle even the top of the range Range Rover for a full day from County Land Rover. This was held by team member John Stitt who started the bidding wars. We also have an online auction which is a specialised gun and barrel service from Stevens and Johnson. This is on The Jack Russell page.
We had more live music before the night was drawn to a close but not before John presented our newly wed mascots Jeff and Maria to Caroline and Dave Baskerville classic and specialist cars who guessed our total trip mileage of 3017 miles with a guess of 3000, well done. However judging by the photos Jeff was overwhelmed and had too much ale and Maria was acting up, Good luck Caroline and Dave keep us posted.
And to finish off the a presentation of a lovely cake from Lici's - Custom Cake Creations to team member Chris who celebrates his 21st Birthday this Tuesday with the whole room singing Happy Birthday.
Remember if you are new to this and want to know what all this Coastbuster Challenge stuff. Where have you been? We have been in several local papers throughout the Country, Local The Voice radio with BBC Radio Devon covering our progress with live update daily. But hey check out our previous post and photos. Here you will find out more and the history behind Jeff and Maria including a video recording taken of the wedding at Weddings At The Mill Forge near Gretna Green at 2am.
But I've rattled on enough now and it only needs me to mention the most important people who when all this old news and forgotten about they will still be there struggling for support so keep them in your thoughts. And these are our chosen charities Scotty's Little Soldiers and our local ChemoHero
And the total raised last night from the raffle & auction was an amazing £475 excluding the Stevens and Johnson service which is still running.
So a big thank you to everyone from the whole Coastbuster Challenge Team.
