The beginnings of the Sahara are Insanely, brutal. Jagged rocks almost vertical hills, no trails and insane heat. This landscape is not for the faint hearted. It truly tests the mind body and vehicle. I may have been intimidated by this wild place! But the ONLY choice I would make to tackle this inhospitable environment is, my ‘Bowler’ Landrover Defender.

I've just spent 4 months tweaking my Landrover Defender.
She's now sitting proud and finally ready for an adventure I've been dreaming about for decades. The dream of returning to the high Arctic, a place I ran my first expedition almost 20 years ago.
The time has come to go for it and I leave in March 2023. I'm heading for a tiny hamlet, hand built and owned by a beautiful couple Lars and Gunter. I'll be traversing 7 countries, on a journey deep into the Arctic circle.
If the Nordic gods shine on me, I believe I can make it. Watch this space to follow the journey....

This image was taken while escaping to Aviemore in the Cairngorms National Park last summer. Next month I’m heading back Scotland to do some winter testing in the Defender. She has just been highly modified for my solo expedition to the high Arctic in early March.
