After visiting David Harries to see his engine conversion and reading what others were considering I seemed to be edging towards a 110 BHP non PD engine and was on the lookout for a low mileage good service history example. However, I have just picked up a 130BHP PD motor in a 2002 VW Passat, 100k, good service and MOT history. My auto electrician assures me that once he has sorted it out and it's all in place it shouldn't be any more complicated, we'll see! I think I may have been swayed by the novelty factor of doubling the number of forward gears from the current 3, as it is a 6 speed box! Although I expected to go for a 5 speed box, as high speeds are unlikely, I am super impressed with how flexible the engine is and it pulls like a train from very low revs. In some ways it's too good a car to scrap with no bumps,scrapes or rust...
