The F2H Banshee was developed as a follow-up to the earlier FH-1 Phantom, McDonnell’s first jet fighter. It was larger, faster, and more capable, designed specifically for operations from aircraft carriers and was the most widely produced version, entering service around 1949.
The Banshee saw extensive action during the Korean War, performing es**rt, reconnaissance, and ground attack missions. It was reliable and had a longer range than other jets like the F9F Panther.
Its unarmed photo-recon version, the F2H-2P, flew secret missions over China and the USSR during the early Cold War.
