🚗⚡ Do electric cars need an ITV in Spain?
Yes, they do!
Even though electric vehicles don’t have an engine emissions test, they still need to pass the ITV just like petrol, diesel and hybrid vehicles.
📅 For most private electric cars in Spain:
✅ Under 4 years old – no ITV required
✅ 4 to 10 years old – ITV every 2 years
✅ Over 10 years old – ITV every year
The inspection still checks important safety items such as:
🔦 Lights
🛞 Tyres
🛑 Brakes
🔧 Suspension
🚘 Steering
🔋 Battery and high-voltage electrical systems
The good news? Because there’s no exhaust or emissions test, the ITV for an electric vehicle can often be a little simpler.
👉🏼 But don’t forget... driving with an expired ITV can still lead to fines, and the rules apply whether your vehicle is petrol, diesel, hybrid or fully electric.
