Today it was time for some more maintanance 🔧

Changing the coolant was likely overdue so I decided to do a full system flush.

Drained the old coolant and refilled with distilled water and some cleaner. Multiple drains and refills later the water came out clear enough to refill the system with new coolant.

Another thing ticked off the list 😊

Some progress has been made during the last few days 😊
There was a minor oil leak into the gearbox and I couldn't tell whether it was the crankshaft oilseal or the sump seal.
So to do the job the best way I could everything needed to be replaced 🤷

'Wio' is now back together and has had a first sucessful test run 😁

It's been 3 years since the last update 😳

Time to show that the Widow is still alive and running.
Well not running for the next few weeks actually as it was about time for a clutch change.
On removal of the gearbox I wasn't too happy with what the flywheel looked like.
So it was off to be scimmed and balanced. Now its ordering some more parts and gaskets to get ready for reassembly 🛠️

Time to start preparations for hibernation 💤
Went out for one a last trip today in order to let the engine cleaner do its work.

We have been told its best to do an oil change before hibernation rather than afterwards so that all the contaminants like unburnt fuel or water don't stay inside during sleep.

So we did the cleaning run, flushed the engine with some flushing oil and changed the oil spec from 5W40 to 10W60.

Our widow won't be running during wintertime so no need for us to stick with a 5W oil.
One thing that was immediately noticeable is that the VVC mechs seem to run a lot more quiet. 🤫

You are like "There's so much thread left on the coilovers. Why don't they just lower it even more? 🤔"

Because we wont get out of the garage anymore, thats why 😏

Time to think about installing some sort of car lift to get back on the road 😅

Almost forgot to tell you guys and girls that everything is back together now 💜

All bushes have been replaced and the coilovers are installed successfully 🔧

We are absoluetely in love with the way our Widow looks and drives now.
Time to go on and fix some other bits and bobs ☺️

On we go with the next phase before it's finally time to fit the new parts ✨

This time it was all about derusting 🆘🤕
Though not too bad I thought it would be a good idea to treat the strut bearing and wing mounting points while accessible.

First time I tried the Bilt Hamber Deox Gel and that stuff actually does a pretty good job. After treatment 2 layers of good old Hammerite went on to keep the spots from rusting again too fast 🔨

Now it's time to sit back and let it cure properly. 😴

Out with the old - in with the new 💜💛

Looking at the state of the old strut mounts it was either a damn good refurb or new ones. As they are still available and dont cost much: new ones were ordered. ✨

When they turned up I was quite shocked about what the new rubber bushes looked like 😳 Turned out to be old and brittle wax, easily removed with a bit of heat. 🔥

Finally, some 'seals' were created from sponge rubber to stop the strut mounts from rubbing and rusting onto the mounting points.

So the coilovers are finally ready. On to the next tasks 🚶
