So proud…

This New Year’s Honours, my dad, Mike or John Michael Newton Cooper as no one calls him, was awarded an OBE. For quietly doing the work he believed in for over five decades

In the 1990s, when many thought it was impossible, he was a driving force behind bringing the Mini Cooper back to life. It became relevant again. Convincing people, including my Grandfather and pushing when it was uncomfortable, backing British engineering and British manufacturing.

Then came John Cooper Works. A sub brand built on motorsport DNA, performance and authenticity. Today it stands as a core pillar of MINI worldwide, but it started with an idea of honouring my grandfather with racing at its heart.

I’ve seen the hard work up close. The risks taken. The moments when it would have been easier to walk away. This honour recognises not just one decision, but a lifetime of commitment to making a great British brand stronger, bolder and relevant again.

From launching new JCW models around the world, to charging up the famous Goodwood hill climb, or discovering a new favourite climb at Tutto Bene, then on to the ever popular fan and track days and on to Austin and the F1. In between, being closely involved in the coolest MINI concept cars of recent years through the collab with Deus. It’s been a full throttle year with MINI.

A knee surgery took me off the racing track this year but I’ll be back in 2026.

Oh and we made a couple of cool films with the MINI team and MINI Belux.
