PERHAM, Minn. — After a 5-year hiatus, familiar sounds have returned to the Minten barn near Perham: pulsators vibrating, milkers pumping, chains rattling and cows mooing. Twenty-four-year-old …

Last week's mailer was too good to leave in your inbox.

Forty cows. Two screens. One of them made more milk. The University of Guelph ran cows on the same high-straw ration and changed nothing but the chop length. The cows on the shorter, processed chop ate 1.43 kg more dry matter per day and held their body condition better.

Same feed. Same cows. The only thing that changed was the chop.

Feed a long, uneven chop and she sorts the bunk and eats less. Feed a fine, consistent chop and she eats more, sorts less, and holds condition. For a dairy herd, that extra intake goes straight to the tank.

And you can't hold a fine, consistent chop in a machine that runs out of capacity. That's what Big Bite is about.

Small chop, big profit. Big Bite capacity, big returns.

After 60 years, we’ve ground a few hay bales.
That little TH-900 sitting in a North Dakota field is where it started. Today there’s a HayBuster feeding cows on every continent cows live on. From dairy barns in Cyprus to feedlots in Kazakhstan, contractors in Brittany to biogas plants in Austria. Every day, somewhere in the world, the cows are eating, and a HayBuster is part of how they get fed.
And these days, after the cows are done eating, we grind the manure too. Straight into the biogas reactor. For all of the same reasons we have bee grinding hay to feed cows.
We’ve watched technology come and go. Feeding trends evolve. New machines show up promising the world. But one thing hasn’t changed since 1966.
If you need to make bales small, HayBuster is the standard.
60 years. Still grinding. Still American built. Still the one farmers count on. Built to Grind. Built to Lasr. Since 1966

A six-year-old girl from Strasburg died trying to walk 60 feet from her house to the barn.
They found her two days later. A quarter mile from home. Fully dressed for the weather. It wasn’t enough.
That was March 1966. The worst blizzard in North Dakota history. 100 mph gusts. 40-foot drifts. 18,500 cattle dead. Four days of zero visibility. An entire state shut down.
And somewhere near Minot, a rancher named Joe Anderson was snowed in with his shop, his cows, and a very simple problem. He was watching his cattle waste feed he couldn’t afford to lose. In a normal winter that hurt. In that winter it could wipe you out.
So he built a machine that chopped hay into precise lengths so cattle ate every piece and nothing hit the ground.
That machine became HayBuster. We’ve been building them in Jamestown, North Dakota ever since. Sixty years. Thirty countries. Same idea Joe had in that shop during the worst storm the state had ever seen.
