If you're quoting China-origin cargo through Australian ports this quarter, re-run the math before you send the invoice.
"Australia doesn't have the tariff" was true right up until July 24, 2026.
If you're quoting China-origin cargo through Australian ports this quarter, re-run the math before you send the invoice.
Here's what's actually live at the border:
— USTR's new Section 301 (forced-labor finding) applies an additional 12.5% to Australia, mainland China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Vietnam and 40+ other economies; 10% to another 14. It replaces the 10% temporary tariff that expired the same day.
— Country of origin travels with the goods. A Sydney stop doesn't re-nationalise Chinese production, so Section 301 still applies.
— Metals and autos still carry Section 232: 50% on steel, aluminum and copper; 25% on derivatives above 15% metal content and on autos.
— 232 goods are listed in the 301 exemption annex — the two don't stack, but you will pay one of them.
— UFLPA detention risk stays on cotton, polysilicon and seafood.
— And the payer is the U.S. Importer of Record, not your Australian entity.
Small parcel is where people are actually getting hurt:
Since Aug 29, 2025 the $800 de minimis exemption is suspended worldwide and T86 fast-track is shut. Every shipment now needs a 10-digit HTS code, verified country of origin, material composition and brand disclosure. Broker fees and exam rates are up — UPU counted an 81% drop in U.S.-bound parcels on day one, with 88 postal operators suspending or cutting service. China → Australia → U.S. dropshipping is done. Bulk into a U.S. warehouse is the only play left.

Stuck at customs? These 4 declaration mistakes are triggering your inspections.
Stuck at customs? Your declaration might be triggering red flags.

A country's risk management system is extremely sensitive to declaration discrepancies. Get these four things right and you'll dodge most inspections.

Rule 1 — Be specific. Never write "clothing" or "Gifts". Say exactly what it is: "100% Cotton Men's T-Shirt, Size L". Match the label on the carton.
Rule 2 — Get your HS / HTS code right. For complex goods, apply for a binding ruling (US CBP 19 CFR 177) or a BTI (EU). Don't just pick the code with the lowest duty rate.
Rule 3 — Declare the true value. Your contract, commercial invoice and payment proof must all agree. As a rule of thumb, stay well clear of prices 30% below market.
Rule 4 — Keep documents consistent. Contract, invoice, packing list and B/L must match each other line by line. Accuracy beats speed.

We're a 10+ year freight forwarder in China focused on FCL. General cargo only. We lock space with premium carriers on O/A terms, give you transparent online tracking and verifiable loading videos.

Which of the four is your weakest link? Tell me below.

Happy China's National Day! There is a country, then there are homes. There is a country, then there are enterprises. 🇨🇳🎶

There is a country, then there are homes. There is a country, then there are enterprises. 🇨🇳

On China's National Day, our whole team gathered in one room and sang "My Motherland and I" — a song every Chinese person knows by heart.

Why share this with our partners overseas?

Because supply chains are built by people who stay.
15 years. 2,000+ overseas clients. 600+ types of goods. 200+ countries and regions.
None of it moves without a team that is still standing, still together, still singing in the same room.

To our clients and friends around the world: thank you for trusting a team that will still be here next year. And the year after.

🎶 Wishing prosperity, strength and flourishing — to our country, and to everyone building something across borders.

🌍 Tell us in the comments: how does YOUR country celebrate its national day? 👇

Your China shipments just got 12.5% more expensive — and it's NOT your supplier's fault.
As of July 24, 2026, the U.S. hit Chinese-origin goods with a new 12.5% Section 301 tariff.

Section 232 on steel, aluminum, copper, autos and semiconductors stays at 25–50% — and here's the key: 301 and 232 do NOT stack. If 232 applies, that's your layer.

Under U.S. law, the Importer of Record — that's YOU — pays CBP. Your Chinese factory doesn't write the check.

And the $800 de minimis exemption? Gone since August 29, 2025. T86 express clearance is closed. Every single package now needs a 10-digit HTS code, country of origin, material and brand declared. Broker fees and inspection rates are up.

Direct-to-consumer dropshipping from China — that arbitrage is over. Move your inventory to a U.S. overseas warehouse.

Importers: have you re-quoted your landed cost since July 24? Tell me below.

Full breakdown and the 232 vs 301 decision tree are in the first comment.

12.5% Section 301 duty is now live on China & Hong Kong–origin goods. Here's who legally pays. 📦🇺🇸

US importers — read this before your next quote 👇

When the Section 122 surcharge expired on July 24, 2026, a new Section 301 measure took its place: 12.5% on goods originating from China and Hong Kong, effective 12:01 a.m. ET that same day.

What applies now:
✅ Section 301 (12.5%) — most China-origin goods not covered by Section 232
✅ Section 232 (25%–50%) — still in force for steel, aluminum, copper, autos and semiconductors
✅ No stacking — if Section 232 applies, that is the primary tariff. The 301 duty does not stack on top.

Who pays?
Under U.S. law, the U.S. Importer of Record is the statutory payer of all customs duties. You can negotiate who feels the cost — you cannot negotiate who is legally on the hook with CBP.

Before your next PO:
1️⃣ Re-run your landed-cost model with the new duty
2️⃣ Verify every HTS code on your file
3️⃣ Confirm country-of-origin documentation is in place
4️⃣ Ask your account lead for the impact on your specific HS codes

Question for the comments 👇 Are you re-quoting customers, or absorbing it?

5 suppliers. 5 invoices. 1 smarter way to ship to Australia.

Today's run: we collected goods from several different China suppliers — then consolidated everything into ONE shipment and sent it door-to-door to our client in Australia. 🇦🇺
The most expensive mistake we see importers make 👇 letting every supplier ship on their own. You pay 4 pickups, 4 minimum charges, 4 doc fees — for cargo that could travel together.
From China to Australia, we run all of it:
✈️ Express — 1–5 days, samples & urgent restock
🛫 Air freight — 5–10 days, the sweet spot for most restocks
🚢 Sea freight (FCL/LCL) — the cost killer for bulky cargo
🚄 Rail + 🚚 Truck — the balanced middle lane
📦 All available door-to-door, customs handled.
Global Vertical — 15 years in freight. China → Australia / USA / Canada.
💬 Comment "RATE" + your route, weight/CBM and ready date. We'll send back a side-by-side cost comparison of all methods — actual numbers, not a quote form.
